He's gone through a lot and didn't want to burden you. He is strong and wants to protect you but needs his time alone to deal with all he's gone through. Don't be the needy girlfriend. Don't predicate your whole relationship on a few days of no communication. He needs his space and you need to respect him. If you let him know that you're there for him whenever he needs you, that's enough. Don't expect him to come crying though, he'll be fine just knowing you care.

If you're going to have a future with him, you can't let these petty things be the judge & jury of whether or not he cares for you. You will have worse problems and how will you handle them then? Stop testing his love for you. Put your feelings aside and consider his and be patient. Instead of texting questions, text him reassurances of how much he is loved and you will always be there for him.
