Where do I stand with my taurus??

Been seeing this Taurus for about 3 yrs. He used to live in the same city, he has since been long distance for almost two years.
Before he left, we never established what we were. All he said is you will come see me right? I said yes of course. I have never had even one invite.
I see him as my boyfriend (loyal only to him), but not sure how he views me.
He does WORK ALOT and in a stressful position, but keeps saying when I get on the backside of things we can spend some time together. That was 3 months ago.
He is coming into town next week, and I don't want to be one of the pushy girls to have "the talk". Actually I have probably been the exact opposite. I tried fishing around for answers from him in a subtle way.. They did not go well.
You know what they say when you go fishing you never know what you will catch. I caught an old boot.
He likes cute and Cheesey.. So I was going to write a note asking him to be my boyfriend?
I only have one chance to do this right. He comes in on Wed of next week.

I am so confused. One min he will be texting me sweet-cheeks and the next nothing.
