Well, I like that Aikido is not about winning or losing, because a fight never takes place. Your goal isn't to harm your potential attacker, but only to make sure that s/he doesn't harm you. It is very calm, imo.
It doesn't require that you exhaust yourself using force or strength, as with karate. Instead, you are trained to use the body weight (or, ki) of your opponents against them. In a sense, you guide them. You learn to throw *their* weight around.
""also i research escrima, wing chun, wing tsun, aikido, the karates, ninpo, jujitsu, bajiquan, capioera, and so on...""
- cool! i only know of jujitsu, the karates, and capoeira, from that list. capoeira is martial arts in the form of a dance. i saw it performed live once, and they gave us a bit of its history and origins. very cool stuff!
Awwww. lol Yea, my dad was overbearing. Thank God for my mom, who could sense that I was a kid that thirsted for knowledge and was internally motivated as it was. She knew to back off me and encourage only as needed. He eventually figured it out.
""Your Dad was keen on Aikido? Did he learn it too?""
I'd like to get into Krav Maga at some point. From what I've read it's particularly brutal, efficient, and purely designd for self defense, not sport. If someone attacks you unwarrantedly, they should be delt with harshly, not in a sportingly manner.
I've picked up Aikido again. 🙂
