Since I'm from there, it's my go-to vacation every summer when I'm in no mood of exploring new places or just want to unwind someplace familiar.

Haven't been to Montenegro yet though.

But coastal Croatia you can't go wrong. All those picturesque towns along the coast offer pretty much the same vibe .

If you want Italian influences go to Northern Croatia, specifically Istria. Up there is also a town called Rovinj, where you can take a ferry directly into Venice. I think it's a 3 hour ride.

That way you can experience Venice on a Croatian budget, staying in Rovinj. Way cheaper than accomodation in Venice. You go early morning and return with the last ferry back.

You can't go wrong with sunny Dubrovnik either if culture and history and Game of Thrones is your kink .

I can't speak for neither Romania nor Bulgaria as I've never been there, however, if you are into nature former Yugoslav republics offer a great deal of adventure!

I'd suggest to steer clear from tourist traps but I guess they are what they are for a reason.

Much overlook, in my humble opinion, is Macedonias Ohrid and it's namesake lake ...

Montenegro has equally stunning coastline as Croatia but more friendly on one's wallet & dare I say less congested although that too is changing fast!

I'm sure you could've googled it yourself but here as article as a suggestion for a starting point...

Bosnia and Hercegovina I feel rivels others in beauty but I am not convinced tourism infrastructure is as developed as it is in Croatia and Montenegro. That's not to say on can't get around, it just I do not think it's as accessible and convenient. That being said...

I'd suggest one visits river Buna springs

In terms of historical sites, Balkan is littered with it so really wherever one goes, I'm sure there is something to be uncovered.

Food is da bomb but that just my bias! 😬

I hope my pics will post... 😑
