Any sign can feel free to answer.

I ask because the majority of the Virgos I know just see holidays as money thrown at ungrateful people, LOL! They're not into the whole birthday or Christmas shopping thing, and my stepfather (a Virgo) was always known to say "it's all a plot, Hallmark and all those fukers, Valentines and Mother's day and all that! It's all a way to take our hard earned money back from us!" LOL.

Of course, as a kid, I just thought he was a stingy mean ass, but I can see his point now, LOL.

I'm not big on July 4th, and St. Pattys, and even New Years--I mean, I acknowledge them (and hells YEAH I appreciate the day off if the holiday warrants one) but I can't say I get INTO it, you know? I'm not trying to get trampled in Times Square just to get fondled by some perv behind me as I watch the ball drop.

People's birthdays, I will make a fuss over in so much as making sure I call to wish them one, or take them out to lunch or dinner. As far as presents, I just don't want to waste my money on something they may cast aside--I'd rather just give them a gift card or something. Tacky, and cold, I know--but they'll use it, and that's all my Virgo mind cares about.

Halloween--now that seems to be a Pisces holiday. Every Pisces I know will go apesheit crazy for Halloween (and Mardi Gras). They seem to love dress up very much, 2 have told me that it's a chance for them to have the "actor/actress" in them come out, a chance to be someone else. I guess I can understand that, but I'm not into Halloween at all. I live w/a Pisces who will acknowledge NO OTHER holiday except Halloween--he will throw BIG ASS BASHES at his house every year. I just spend the night at a friend's, and hope the house will still be standing when I return the next day. I went to one of said parties, and guys were just pressing beer bottles into my palms, trying to get me plastered, while his "friends" were throwing empty beer bottles up against the siding of the house to "recycle" them by having them explode into shards of glass into the grass. I was so turned off...

But Christmas 🙂 I love Christmas! It's only recently hit me over the last 3 years just how much! I love the movies that come on, the carols, the idea of snow on Christmas morning, the decorations (although I don't bother decorating, myself). It's a great feeling, I think it's the whole "peace on earth" vibe that you feel from others.

I hate to sound like a scrooge, but I dont care for christmas...It's because it's more about shopping and spending unnecessary money. It seems kids nowadays dont get the true meaning and it's all about what are you getting me.

Very true, I gotta admit.

I love my niece and nephew lots, but when I go over to their place during the holidays and see the millions of gifts for them already under the tree, I'm like "yeah, ya'll don't need any from me--you covered", LOL!

I'd rather take em to movies, and lunch and then let em run around a dept. store with money in their hands--oddly enough, they don't want to spend it. They end up REALLY holding tight to that money, and only buying what they TRULY NEED, now that it's THEIR money in their hands, and not their parent's =))

Halloween, hands down, is my favorite holiday. I love it more than Christmas. I put more effort into my Halloween costume than I do buying gifts for people.

Now, I don't exactly hate Christmas. I like Christmas because it's very nostalgic for me and it's the only time of the year that I actually get a lengthy break and time to relax. I prefer Christmas in Germany than in the US because it's more beautiful and less focused on gifts.

I agree with my old Virgo Dad: Most holidays are for family - most especially the children. He never asked for anything for Christmas, but instead got the biggest kick out of watching us kids open our presents. He did not like us making a big deal out of his birthday - he's eased up on that some in the last 10-15 years.

I love the spirit of the Christmas season - always brings back fond memories from my youth.

I like to see how creative kids can be with their Halloween costumes.

But by JAN, I'm ready for a rest from all of the holidays.

Ah, so you had a Virgo father as well (well, in my case, step). He was very grinchy about Christmas too, until Christmas morning when he'd see how happy my little brother and I were opening gifts. I'd sneak a peek over at him, and he'd be cheesin' all proud, LOL. I think it also had a big deal to do with the fact that my little brother and I NEVER took our gifts for granted, we played with those toys until they were begging for mercy.

Halloween, I agree--for kids. When adults go nuts, and chicks find any reason to wear dental floss over their nips and pubes and call it a costume, it's like [X]--does not compute.

I, honestly, don't spend the holidays with my family. I don't want to take the chance of them pissing me off somehow on a day where I'm supposed to be merry =))

I usually see them the days following.

i'm a libra. hate holidays. they were the time my family would fight the most. and my parents were divorced and would always get mad at me for wanting to split them. there was no compromise that didn't get me yelled at. i'd also get yelled at for insufficiently liking (or pretending to like) presents i got, which were almost always useless and not my taste.

so yeah, hate holidays. don't celebrate any of them. if i ever have kids, though, i'll do it for them. i'd probably learn to like it again.

Damn 😢 I'm really sorry to hear that. I can't even begin to imagine. How in the world can they yell at you for being appreciative of your presents?? Jeez!

I'm really happy that you are open to learning to love the holidays through your future kids though--that's wonderful.

Thanksgiving ( duhhh, any excuse for me to pack my cakehole ) and Christmas. Because family gathers together and laughs and hugs and all the good things. And I bake for adults, they get cookies, candies, quick breads, etc. I only buy gifts or make them for the little ones. Nice thing about the baking is two-fold. I am doing what I enjoy and putting heart into it, and wonderful side bonus of one size fits all, no returns, no standing in line, never a disappointed face.

So what about you? What sign are you, and what holiday(s) (if any) are you into? What are your thoughts on them in general?

I'm a capricorn and I *adore* Christmas 😄 It's the best holiday for me, and it is the most awesome time of the year lol.

I don't know why but I just love all things Noel -- it's my number 1 holiday 😄 2nd best holiday is Halloween 😉

^^^^ I love Christmas too. It seems as I've gotten older, I enjoy it more, I'm not sure why, Christmas is not the same as it was when I was younger but I seem to just ... LOVE IT 😄

And I'm a sucker for the 'Peace On Earth' vibe that's seems to be around you ... like World Aids day and Feed the World and things like that. My spirit is all over the place with this stuff.

I usually have enough energy to fight against these types here associated with ... 😉 ...

LMFAOOOOO awwww, the kids asking for candy is okay
It's when the 15-year-olds come by with white painted makeshift Joker faces, and thrust a shopping bag at you that gives me the willies...(O_O)

I'm with you on Christmas! One thing I know, when I do have a family of my own, I'm going to go all out w/decorations and presents, I know it!

I was too happy to come back to work on Monday and play those Christmas songs I've been dying to play. "Merry Christmas Darling" was the first one that came on, on Pandora, and I was in heaven. Karen Carpenter's voice was perfection...

Christmas and Thanksgiving. So many memories and more to come. The gift giving/receiving NEVER was an issue with me good or bad. Just having everyone together. Now...the food...LOL. and even though we don't get severely cold weather here in Houston, I actually like cold weather and summer weather equally...beautiful here in the swamp and Austin(mother's side) and deep east Texas(dad's side).

That's what's up 🙂

I swear, I thought you were going to be all "bah humbug" too! LOL. Just goes to show, you really never know who someone is based on a few threads on the internet--always gotta ask.

Yes. See, I realize that many on here...specifically women were going to view me one way without asking. And so, we're not going to get along well. People who ask-legitimately though, not asking because they are cynics who aren't actually intelligent...they just ask TOO MUCH-are ok with me. To ask is to respect that the person best suited to tell you or to observe...is that person. That's noble. I'm really NOT some jackarse. I'm assertive. I'm a quick study and I love Christmas, thanksgiving and New Years Day.

It's going to happen though--people see you answer one thread a certain way, and they automatically peg you for "this" or "that" type--like I said, I thought you were going to bah humbug the holidays, and am glad you piped up to say that's not your style . There are some that will ask, and there are some that will assume--the last being the type that live in their own little world where they have to pretend they're wonderful and everyone ELSE is the problem in order to get out of bed in the morning. But I've read enough of what you've posted in countless threads to know you know this, and just shake your head at those unfortunate enough to be so touched in the head.

Never saw you as a jackass, btw. Bold, outspoken, firm in your convictions, and funny as all hell 🙂 --but not a jackass at all.

I understand completely.

Blunt, I can respect--I might not LIKE the dish it's dealt on, but it's the outright truth.

RUDENESS is a whole other ballgame. I don't care what you have to say, if you can't speak to someone the way you yourself would like to be spoken to, then you need to be isolated from other human beings until you can do so.

I side-eye anyone who makes excuses for someone's rude way of dishing out their own brand of truth. These are the same people who like to play slave to their masters and mistresses. Keep all that master/control stuff in the bedroom, I say, or expect to get roundhouse kicked in the real world.

Just adding here that I am only rude to people when they get in my face. I can be blunt too, but I was also not raised in the woods and know how to give advice without suggesting people hang themselves, all to make me feel I've accomplished something for the day. It's advice. They're either open to it or not. Threatening them violently because they choose to ignore it is not blunt, it's gutter trash tactic. But some people just don't know any better it seems...

Damn. Seems like I've been gone so long. Good thread.

I can't stand frivolous spending. It's ridiculous. If it were up to me, kids would get healthy food, clothes and a "package" to some form of an artistic course like music or painting, or even a language class. I did that for my eldest niece one year. Purchased a French lessons package for 2-4 year olds. I think it's much wiser to invest money on something educational versus a pokemon toy. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to take all of the joy out of the holidays but when I see parents coming out of Toys R Us, American Girl or Build A Bear with 10 bags filled with meaningless toys for their bratty ass kids, it just makes me want to puke. I am guilty of buying expensive gifts in the past and now that is why I say no more. I would rather take the little ones to the MET to see Hansel and Gretel for $ 100 per ticket than to purchase a doll worth the same amount (although I did do it and I'm sorry I did). This way they get cultured, gain a better understanding of the world, and still manage to have a good time all at once.

Omg--I feel you on going nuts with money.

I got a REALLY great paying Gov't job when I was like 24, and I went bonkers that Christmas. I had more money than I knew what to do with! LOL.

I must have spent $ 2 - 3,000 on my parents and little brother that Christmas.

I felt good, and they loved their gifts but yeah--no more of that, lmfao.

Yeah. It's the simple shit I like now. No more of that grandiose. It's stoopid. As far as shopping goes, I can't stand to be in a department store for too long. 20 minutes is like the max. Walking through (well pushing through really) crowds of people with the heavy coat and all the trimmings (clothes, long johns, hats, scarfs, boots) and shit. I just get hot and irritated. And not in the good way. Especially when you have kids with you and they're running around everywhere and shit. Susie done ran her ass off to the home goods dept fucking around with the display iron and sammy is off on another floor in menswear. aaarggggghhhh....bahumbug. I'm in bitch mode today.

Shit, my parents took me to the ballet when I was like 12 or something. Did I get cultured? Fuck no. Better understanding of the world? Fuck no. Did I have a good time? Fuck no. Did I crack up at the dude with his crotch all padded? Fuck yeah.

Well I guess it all depends on the person. I absolutely loved the first time I saw the ballet, the Alvin Ailey & Martha Graham dance shows, my firs broadway play and my first opera. Amazing. I also loved the first time that I went to Macy's as a young girl at x-mas time and walked through the store with all of the beautiful lights and the trees and just marveled. The Holidays to me are more about feeding your senses artistically and spiritually versus spending a ton of money on gifts. I'd rather have a tree-trimming party in the company of friends and family talking and laughing than wrapping gifts to put under the tree. Would rather watch Holiday classics curled up on the couch in a cute pajama set than out hunting for dvds to give to someone. Iono. I'd rather be in the spirit of it in terms of indulging in the simple pleasures of the Holiday rather than running around Best Buy searching for the new wii fit or x-box.

VV, well, it was when I was older that I began to appreciate musicals -- Phantom, Secret Garden, etc. etc. But the Broadway play I went to sucked ass. I was so disappointed. I was like, this is Broadway— And it had major names in it.

Anyway, hey, if you ever go to Vegas you have to see the Beatles' Love show. I never liked their music but after I saw the show I liked it. It's unbelievable. It's gothic and dark, but also light and psychedelic. It's up there with the best shows I've seen.

I didn't like Phantom. I was highly disappointed. Madame Butterfly (opera) didn't move me the way I thought it would either. Have you ever been to Carnegie Hall? If you haven't, next time you're in the Big Apple, please go.

Oh I definitely want to get out to Vegas and I do like the Beatles but just not very experienced as far as their music is concerned. Would love to see that show so, I'll keep it in mind. After this next trip to Europe, I promised myself I'm going somewhere hot and fun or to some exotic island. I plan to do some more American states in between now and my next big trip. I've got my eye on Colorado.
