What I can do about it?
I'm going to approach minor adjustments you can make that actually go a long way in changing your habits.

General science: its accepted that your body doesn't realize its full or feel satisfied until well after you've stopped eating. 20 minutes I think is the number research is stating now.

You may also be brought up, as I did, at a young age that "YOU ALWAYS FINISH YOUR PLATE". Well I'm actually going to say..THAT'S BAD. Many of us at a young age were lead to believe we HAVE to finish our plate irregardless of if we're full or not and that lasts the entirety of many people's lives.

1. Smaller portions - obviously I've been leading up to this but how? Lets say you're ABSOLUTELY faced with Scenario #1 on a given day. Don't order the big ass meal. Order the small one. Instead of Soda, get an Iced tea (the non sugar kind). If you can get something else besides fries, do so. Big tip: NO MAYO. Mayo has an AMAZING amount of empty calories.

NOW here's the thing I want you to get used to...
If faced with Scenario #1, but on top of that of what I just suggested, when you're at wherever you're going to eat.. I want you to cut it in HALF and just eat that. You can order whatever you want! but only half of it. Even if you couldn't substitute something for the fries, JUST EAT HALF.

Strangely enough, if you start getting used to it, you'll find that after 20 mins you'll walk away saying "I'm good! I feel satisfied". Now before you say "WTF VH!??! HALF".... yes half..because half of a meal in America is most likely a FULL mean in another country. So you really aren't STARVING yourself. You're breaking a bad habit.

(Cont...)

Virgo, you are a genius. Lol. I really do not eat too much mcdonalds types of foods. Luckily, I work at a borading school and I eat the meals that they prepare. Which are a little better than fast food. Most days they prepare chicken, fish or pasta for lunch. But like you said, I still have no idea what they are using to prepare this food...sauces, oils, etc. Every now and then about once every 3 wks or so I will go through a drive thru. But I still need to incoporate the half portion suggestion even with the boarding school food. Great tip!

2. More meals than three - Okay this one requires a little more thought and discipline on your part. And honestly, this part isn't going to work if you're going to cheat. Like I said earlier, "I'm going to be real with you. Now you need to be real with yourself."

- Breakfast - Yes, the most important meal of the day. Yes, you've heard it 23948723948 times. Yes, I'll say it again. Eat your breakfast, damn it! Now mind you...I LOVE MY SLEEP. I LOVE SLEEPING IN. I LOVE LAZY MORNINGS (especially lazy mornings with someone soft and warm next to me!). So I hear you that its hard to get motivated to eat first thing in the morning. In fact I normally DON'T eat immediately after waking up. But what I try to do, and I think its realistic, is try to have something fairly small within the first hour - hour and a half of the day.

- More meals than three - So I've told you to eat smaller portions and if you have to eat out, cut it in half. Won't I get hungry sooner? Probably but that's actually a good thing if you can remain real to yourself. You ate half of that sandwich for lunch, its now 3 ours later and you're hungry again versus you normally eat dinner at 6-7. That's OKAY. Eat the 2nd half now. Your goal here is NOT to increase your food intake but increase your metabolism. This DOES NOT WORK if you're going to cheat yourself for each of these mini meals and have a little "extra".

I'm going to use ME as an example: I'm actually in a weight loss phase right now. Have been for about a month. I'm averaging about 5-6 mini meals a day.
Here's a list of what I had a few weeks ago.
1 - (breakfast) - Small bowl of soup
2. - 3 hours later - An big apple
3. A few hours oater - Left for lunch and got a sandwich - ate half of it
4. A few hours later - still at work - ate the other half of the sandwich
5. 4 hours later - off work - decided to cook at home - I made Brown Rice a small seasoned steak, steamed zucchink (Total caloric content for the meal was like 600?)
6. I felt like nibbling on something a few hours later so had some string cheese

I think total calories that day was 1800ish? Not bad!

I typically eat breakfast, at the school i work at of course. gold star for me! The sample menu that you provided is awesome and I think I just might have to snag it! Lol. I will make a few minor changes but I will use it.

Final Commentary on the 'Portions, Portions, Portions' section
Every BODY is different and EVERYBODY is different. Its just a matter of breaking some bad habits (Life style choices, as Shaka mentioned) and making a "switch" in your mind (Mental discipline, as Q-Bone mentioned).

Yes, I know that it is about mental discipline. I completely agree with that. Although, that is the most important part to changing life style with eating. Coincidently, it is also (most times) the hardest thing to do.

In my country, we eat a medium sized breakfast.
Lunch is the main big meal of the day and dinner is usually small, many times it is soup, fruit, etc. Dinner is usually eaten around 6-7 pm.

I grew up hearing by my countrymen/women that eating a big meal late at night does not allow your body to "burn it" before going to sleep, we say the "food just stays there" (it is a saying).
Whereas dining a small meal for dinner around 6-7 pm does not do this as much.

Is this true? Or is this just silly superstition?

I am aware of the consequences of eating during the middle of the night (12, 1 am, etc) but what about eating a big dinner at 7 pm, and then going straight to bed by 9-10 pm?

Does it matter?

Good question! The accepted research is that eating a big meal only a few hours before you're going to bed isn't a good idea. When I was a teenager, my doctor had advised me to eat dinner at a time knowing that I would be at least awake for another 5-6 hours to burn and digest the meal

BUT as with anything "research" related in this topic, temper it with life style as well moderation. During my early weight training phases, I used to work out pretty late at night. I HATED going to the gym when it was packed and my gym is open 24 hours. I'm also kind of a night person so when life allows, I tend to keep later hours. Anyways I'd eat dinner later that most, 8-9ish knowing I was hitting the weight room around 11ish. Then after I left the gym, I'd eat something small and protein orientated for amino acid intake right after muscle work.

For me, THAT worked because I was going to be active at night. For someone that's just going to kick back after work until bed time, maybe not so much.

many people believe their daily caffeinated drink helps them to lose weight or keep weight off. the diuretic effect of caffeine is loss of water, not fat. caffeine intake aggravates stress, leading to increased levels of the glucocorticoids including cortisol. increased cortisol levels lead to abdominal obesity. caffeine also stimulates appetite.

Tamara hit on a VERY important point.

Be VERY mindful of diet soda's as they also fall into the category of diuretic's. This ALSO applies to Energy drinks (Anything with Taurine) as it has a diuretic-like effect. Any loss in weight you may have will most likely not be a loss in mass but a loss in water. You may notice that after a diet soda, you have to urinate and may also find yourself parched again shortly after the drink is done. Signs and symptoms of your body being forced into minor dehydration.

Also, most diet soda's use a sugar substitute known as aspartame. General rule, AVOID ASPARTAME. I can go more into the science of it if you want.

Alright, I'm off to run!

I'll address sections on good foods and exercise if / when warranted.

Typically, I take spinning clases 6 days a week for 60 mins and i take these weight traningclasses at the gym about three times a week. Does this sound good? What are your throughts?

It does sound good actually! I'm impressed.
The key thing with your cardio work is heart rate. In your spinning classes, are you pushing yourself? The only reason I ask is 6 x 60 mins a week = good! I don't see you keeping that extra weight for long with some minor changes in your diet. I'll go back to what I said earlier...

General rule, whatever your goal is, its 60% diet, 40% excercise.

lol so I looked back at the entire thread and didn't realize I wrote as much as I did. I can absolutely get my VIRGO-GEEK on with this topic and speak about it for the rest of the day so I'll stop for now. For now just keep it real and tangible.

One last statement of motivation:

You didn't put on the extra weight overnight, right?
It took some time to put it on.
Its going to take some time to take it off. 🙂
Allow yourself that and know it won't be overnight.

If you have any more questions, throw them out and we'll discuss.

I drink lots of tea, which is a diuretic and I like it.it actually flushes the fat out of my cells when I'm eating right.

*disclaimer*
This is not a scientifically proven fact as far as I know, but as someone who has always been prone to retaining a lot of water (water moon and ascendant) I like to keep it moving out.5 lbs of water weight sucks just as much as 5 lbs of fat weight. 🙂

Tea's VERY good. That water retention thing is such a pain in the ass for you ladies.

But, I don't think they test your brain matter on yer physical and check ups.

What does intelligence have to do with eating meat or not eating meat?
Try telling this to all of the Hindu vegetarians in the world.

Many intelligent people eat meat

So?

And many intelligent people did not/do not eat meat either. Albert Einstein and Nikola Tesla are examples.

I don't know the reason you brought intelligence to the discussion but let me add, in terms of IQ, vegetarians are more likely to have a higher IQ than meat-meaters. Whether is is that people with a high IQ are more likely to become vegetarians or vice versa....who knows.
Causation does not indicate correlation.
Link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/6180753.stm

The reason why I brought intelligence in the matter is because a lot of scientists that study the past (sorry, I'm probably going to sound really uneducated here, I just can't think of the name they call them) believe that man became more intelligent once he/she began eating meat. That was the connection I was pointing out. These proteins you get from animal meat contribute to brain functions of its building blocks.

Listen, I am not stating that eating meat is wrong but personally, I don't like the texture or where it comes from. It has nothing to do with animal rights for me. I just don't like meat.
If you want to eat meat, then go ahead but personally, it is not for me.

hehe, no worries, I'm just debating. Getting other people's opinions leads to a life without ignorance. So I like to argue about this whenever I get a chance and look at both viewpoints etc. Helps with insight.

I LOVE meat!!!!!! meat is my friend!!!!!!
yay meat!

Btw, I have not had any diet soda or sweets today. I just drank water. For breakfast I had 2 slices of canteloupe and honeydew mellon and a half of a bagel. For lunch I had salad with luttuce, tomoto, cucumbers and three sprays of this lite Italian dressing (10 cals per spray). I have been snacking on baby carrots all day. I am starting to get a little hungry. I will have to figure out what I am going to eat for dinner. Possibly a piece of salmon and a few slices of tomoto or something. Hmm...

Virgo... you are so right about weight lose mainly being about diet. I remember a few moths ago I got a terrible flu. Well, I did not eat a lot for like 4 days and just ate soup four like 5 days following. I was so scared that iwas going to gain weight since I had not worked out. I actually lost like 10 lbs in 2 wks. I know that is not healthy or the way to go. I was not trying to lose weight, I was just sick. But it is just a testiment to how powerful cutitng caloric intake down is.

Thats hot.

Now, that kind of meat is more than perfectly fine with me. I'll have it daily and as many times as possible.
No discrimination here.
As a matter of fact, it has good benefits for your health: you exercise and adding to this, semen contains protein (not too much though), zinc, potassium, etc.

Although the content does depend on the man's diet.

Oh...and the release of oxytocin...stress killer!

This scorpio approves this message. 🙂

.....the weird thing is. One of my friends and I were trying to solve world hungry. So we calculated how many people we can feed if every guy "played" with themselves. .....it got scary after awhile, but it would work :\

im really cheeped out now by yer post : (

Okay, I didnt read EVERY single post in here, but I did skim across most of it. I wanted to contribute because I am a figure/fitness competitor and I used to be a personal trainer so I certainly know how to eat and what works in terms of weight loss. I am going to say that VirgoHero has a LOT of great advice. LISTEN TO HIM. Especially that you need to be eating more than three meals a day!!!! You should be eating healthy, small portions approximately every 3 hours. Your metabolism will pick up and your body will stay in burn mode, burning calories pretty much on a constant basis. As a woman you should be taking in approximately .8 grams of protein per lb of your body weight on a daily basis. You said you are 157lbs, so you should be eating approx 126 grams of protein on a daily basis. As you lose weight keep it in perspective.

It sounds to me like you exercise a lot and you KNOW what you are doing wrong, you just need the motivation to get back to doing that. I know how you feel, I experience the same thing from time to time. Just take baby steps to getting back on track, call a girlfriend and make a pact to do it together. If you have someone to make you accountable, you will be more motivated to do it. Write down what you eat on a daily basis and make yourself accountable for it. Its okay if you fall off the wagon, just get right back on it! I myself, even when I am training for a show, allow myself one cheat meal per week. That way if I crave something, I know I can have it on a certain day and it gets me through the cravings. Honestly, when you begin to eat small portions more often you will be used to it so when you eat the cheat meal, you will only need a small amount to satisfy yourself and you wont overindulge. If you are feeding your body regularly with clean, healthy foods, the weekly cheat meal will actually shock your body and you will be surprised at the results of having fats once a week.

As for water intake.... YOU NEED at least a gallon per day. If you are eating properly, you will not need to worry about an imbalance of electrolytes. Take a multi-vitamin and amino acids and fish oil. These help with weight loss and keep you healthy. Also, HIT THE WEIGHTS!!! You will be surprised at the tonality you will see and the added calorie burn you will receive. Switch up your cardio habits... do something different every few weeks. Try some plyo-metric, boot camp style training!!! IT WILL WORK!!! Good Luck!

Oh and keep your carbs complex.... sweet potatoes, brown rice, oatmeal, whole grains, etc... go for brown not white. Veggies such as asparagus are natural dieuretics. Eat lots of fish, chicken, turkey, lean ground beef..... cut down on your sodium intake too. Sodium bloats you and you will retain water. As for veggies, fresh is better than frozen, frozen is better than canned. Watch out for salad dressings, this is where a lot of people falter, they can be HIGH in fat and calories. Stick with oil/vinegar or balsamic vinagrettes. Try to use fat-free. And also watch condiments... ketchup has lots of sugar so try sugar-free or stick with mustards.... mayo is HIGH in fat!

Just a few tips! You can do it girl. Just recruit some girlfriends to join you! I assure you they will jump on board too!!!!

I need your help too Virgo.

I don't like to drink water. I just can't stand it. What do you suggest to compromise? I don't think drinking all this lemonade and whatnot is going to be good in the long run?

I know this was directed at VirgoHero... but I used to hate water too and when my trainer told me I had drink 2 gallons per day, I thought I would DIE!!! LOL!!! So, I wanted to share my secret... crystal light is my best friend! I never leave home without it! The To-Go packs are over my car, my purse, desk... everywhere. There are so many great flavors to chose from and it makes water intake so much easier!!! Hope that helps! 😉

Drinking Healthy (And no, this isn't about alcohol!)

So there has been some interest in what's worth drinking, what's a good water alternative, and what to avoid. Here are some thoughts I'm going to throw out there for discussion.

Water - Its good for you. Its cleanses. Its the best

- Tamara: "but i find it most important: drink lots of water!" - style point awarded to Tamara! You really cant pussyfoot around how good it is for you and that its worth drinking
- Shaks: "Drinking more than a liter and half can cause serious health problems in relation to the an imbalance of electrolytes." - A comment well worth making. The accepted thought here is that you don't want to just down A DAYS worth of water in one sitting as it will set off your system. The realistic way to look at it... Just drink a glass every hour or so. Your total daily intake will add up pretty fast and that's what you're looking for.

May I try some of your tasty beverage? (Pulp Fiction - Samuel Jackson)
While we ALL enjoy some sort of tasty beverages, there are some that are far more healthier especially in the focus of good caloric intake. I'll make a small list here for those like Domino who would like something with a little flavor

Iced Tea: Its pretty damn close to water with the added leaf compositions that are beneficial. Most healthy iced teams have little to no caloric content but still give you something to drink with flavor. Be mindful that a lot of GOOD TEA's still have caffeine so be mindful of it affecting your sleeping habits. Conversely, I enjoy a good cup of coffee, especially at night but sometimes I'll just go with an iced tea. WARNING: Don't be fooled by the "Iced tea-Like" drinks. Those are filled with enough sugar to make it the equivalent of drinking a soda. You'll know immediately by just looking at the label and checking out the caloric content.

Crystal Light / Flavor Packets: Domino, you were a bit worried about going with alternative drinks such as lemonade. If I remember right, these product, while having sugar, has far less in it than if you bought some standard lemonade brand in the store. LeoLady vouched for "To-Go' packets of Crystal Light Tea's and Lemonade and I see a lot of ladies (yes the smoking hot ones) doing the same thing. Its basically small little packets the size of a finger that you can pour straight into a bottle of water.

The convenient factor is that you can throw in a few bottles of water in your car before you start the day, put away some of these packets, and later when you need a drink and want some flavor, you just pour the packet into the bottled water, shake it up, and BOOM!

Gatorade / Sports Drinks: These are sold as water alternatives with the focus of electrolyte replenishment. The honest truth is unless you're training consistently or doing a cardio heavy sport such as basketball, electrolyte replenishment isn't a gigantic deal. The problem with these sports drinks is that they're also filled with a lot of sugars. When I was doing a lot of my cert training a few years ago, a typical day consisted of 1-2 hours of PT in the morning, some class room instruction, then on to the activities of the day which often times was more physical work. Gatorade was pretty much a staple to us but one of my instructors suggested the following to cut down on the sugar content. Rather than a full glass or bottle of Gatorade, spit it evenly with water. So one glass/cup would be half gatorade / half water. You still retain the electrolyte replenishment factors but also dilute the sugary content of the beverage, and you've added more water to the mix.

Avoid:
Sodas: I love my Dr. Pepper but the honest truth of it is that it has no redeeming qualities, increased sodium, lots of sugar. Just take a look at the label and its calories and then think back to my caloric reference number I gave you guys. 2000! Lets say you down 3 soda's in a day, 200 calories each. That's a 3rd of your daily calories on empty sugars. Plain and simple - try not to make this a staple of your diet

Diet Sodas: Even with the supposed "no calories", the simple fact is that still drinking something with no redeeming qualities and its replacing something healthy you can be drinking. Still increased sodium, the sweetner fucks with your taste buds, and there's a lot of forthcoming research showing the bad effects of aspartame. Bottom line - you can be drinking something better than a diet soda. Suck it up and do it.

HEAVY juice consumption: Juices are good for you in the sense that they do have some vitamins and nutrients but keep in mind that the natural sugars give it a decent caloric content. Drink your juice but don't make this a main staple. Just look at the calorie count and it will make more sense. Remember 2000! Also, drinking juices DOES NOT replace fruit consumption. One of the big deals with eating fruit is actually FIBER which you wouldn't get if you're just drinking juice.

I was drinking a lot of crystal light there for awhile.I can't remember, but I think I quit drinking it because it has splenda.after researching splenda I found it to be satan, but I could be wrong.I went back to sweet n low in my coffee and straight up stevia (liquid ) in ma hot greenie.
but anyhoo, crystal lite is good if you hate h2o and don't drink lots of it.

Nod. I used to use Splenda and I found it far more appealing than anything with Aspartame but I've gone to what I call the "Caveman style ". Basically if its a MAN MADE chemical, its will be bad and kill you. The closer you get to just natural foods, less processed.. AKA - What would be available to a caveman, then its probably better for you.

Slogan of the Day: HEALTHY EATING - EVEN A CAVEMAN CAN DO IT

MEN'S HEALTH AND ITS EFFECT ON SEAMEN

Unofficial testimony speaks that a man's seamen tastes better based on his health.
-This makes absolute sense. The stuff you put in will absolutely affect the stuff coming out.

Said unofficial testimony also speaks that what a man eats will also affect the taste of his seamen.
-Some vouch that they know when their man has had spicy food for lunch as its reflected in his seamen.
-Some also vouch that a healthy man who drinks pineapple juice will produce "sweeter" seamen.

Summary:
If you're a guy who unfortunately has a girl who is a little hesitant about fellatio, then perhaps its just a matter of making the end result more palatable. What more reason do you need to stay healthy and eat right? 😛
