I don't think that virgos are that naive on emotional fronts. It's all about me, me and me when it comes to emotions for virgos. i.e. Most virgos are incapable of showing/giving love until taught. I do not know where do "pricipals" come in picture!

They are materialistic people, often their involvement geneally has to do with,
sex,money,status, intellect and NOT love.

May be martyr means sacrificing love/emotions to achieve every thing else but intimacy in a personal relationship!

Only fools suffer... Be it Virgos or something else

Actually, I can think of things that my husband does that would fall under this category, such as .. he will go all day without eating, eventhough he's starving hungry and I would ask him .. why? He would say because he has to work to earn a living. And I would ask, what does that have to do with denying yourself food if you're hungry. He would say, "Because I can't spare a single second, I can wait. I'm ok", eventhough his stomach is grumbling in protest.
I just shake my head and walk away.

Or, when we down to see our new granddaughter, he spent all his time working, fixing this, fixing that, eventhough there is a maintainence man at the complex who had been contacted and the work was scheduled .. my Virgo tirelessly did a duty that he wasn't asked to do .. then on the way home, he moaned about how he couldn't spend time with the baby because he HAD to work.
I just kept driving, silently and let him suffer within his own self-inflicted torment.

Why are you so dead set against Virgos being martyrs? Most of the ones I know love to serve people, and verge on martyrdom.

the word martyr has many definitions 😛. and i'm pretty sure this is how dyrstr8z meant it:

(in the sense of a "martyr complex")

I am doing it with free will and without any expectations constantly almost every day, that's why I was questioning the ?martyrdom?!
