Virgo guy with Venus in Leo problem?

Okay a while back this guy in my class I was kinda feeling randomly asks me out...we were in a group of friends and he kinda Just blurted it out. He said exactly, Sarah, I like you, would you go on a date with me? I kinda froze and didn't say anything because a) I thought he was kidding b) it was out of nowhere.

So a week later (kinda late) after a ball game I went up to him and was like when you asked me out we're you serious and he hesitated for a while looking at me and he nooded saying yes and asked me if he had made me angry by asking me out..I told him no and he continued to say I talk about you,all the time and his friend came over and got down on one knee...

Well another week later (late again!) before winter break, I went up to him after class and asked him if he still wanted to go out...he kinda blew me off around his friends saying no your mean to me and he was like never then he walked away and went off with his friend...

So I was like whatever we went on winter break and then we came back to school. First day of class back, he asks me Sarah, did you have a good break and I say yeah and he says that he had the same...then he looked down and was like ' I haven't seen you in so long'? ..whyd he say that ?

Anyway like later that week I find out hes been talking to this girl...and apparently he had been way before he asked me out..so I kinda got dis hearted...his friends knew apparently he had asked me out because this one day his friend looked at me and said ' so you guys went on that date yet'? And we both were silent....

So the semester ends and we don't have the same class anymore I decided I want to find out what's really going on and I say...
Hey drew its me , I miss u from class I wanna talk to you about something tho!
Him....heyyy girl I miss you too what do you have to share
Me....well when unasked me out that day I was caught off guard and everything plus I heard you had a gf when u asked me out..so I want to know what's up
Him...sorry it took so long to reply I had a bball game , well I'm talking to someone NOW..real sorry :/

First..why would he LIE and say he's talking,to someone now when he was talking to her way before he asked me out...and second...what made him act this way..was any of this my fault? Please help?

So I saw him a weekend ago for the first time in almost a year & we completely ignored each other but he checked me out...

This other girl was probably someone who he always wanted to date, but she probably had him friendzoned. When the other girl heard that he asked you out, she decided that she liked talking to him and wanted to keep him. None of it was your fault.

Nah, he wasn't friend zoned before me, like he was steady talking to her..
