Whatever happened to the art of REAL CONVERSATION?

You know, when you sat face-to-face with someone and actually (shock, horror) spoke to them?

The "I don't know whether to text him/her" "I emailed but didn't get a reply from him/her" "I sat 'talking" on Skype" etc etc.

Missed cues, missed body language, no voice tone, no looking at the person's face.

Is it any wonder that relationships are so up-the-whacker and hard these days?

I'm reading so much that people are sitting worried about whether they'll get a reply to sending a message. It's insane to put your romantic life in the hands of a cellphone, no? The insecure remain insecure, the timid remain timid, the lazy remain lazy and the cheaters can still cheat because there responsibility of action is hidden behind a hand-held device that sends messages.

Example: My Cancer male friend. If he texts and I haven't replied in half an hour or so, he'll stress. His imagination will run riot and his rejection-o-meter kicks in. I might be working, I might be driving, I might just be in a meeting, yet he wouldn't know because he failed to find out before his imagination took over his logic.

Hands up all those of you who put your lives in the hands of a cellphone or email and then sit stressing about not getting a reply? I know i have and I hated it, so I stopped doing it and actually spoke in person, still do.

Ya'll wouldn't text your doctor back and forth if you were sick, right? So why text a romantic interest and reply on that?

I love technology but I hate the reliance people have on it to communicate.

MY thoughts exactly, NZAqua, great post! I've always wondered the same in the back of my mind. I could honestly and proudly say, a resounding NO; have never stressed over email (rarely want/need to use, anyway), or even use a cell (my Sag and i have never owned and have NO use for cell-phones.) We met with no communication devices and love to live in the real, here and now world. Even in the physiological sense, humans cannot properly bond on all levels, without actually being together in the physical. It really is no wonder.. It also cuts down on unnecessary costs and leaves us that much healthier.. It's like when we see people with their zombie-like faces glued-to and continually checking these devices, everyday, even while walking (putting their physical-selves in danger, too), you can only shake your head..

With that said, we are very high-tech minded, otherwise.

Omg i couldnt agree more i have lost sleep over sent text messages i didnt get replies to. I JUST put my foot down about it last week. Im so over text messages!

And yes...i do think theyve changed relationships for the worse.

There's an anxiety over unanswered texts that i just can't be fagged dealing with anymore.

It's hard to get people to call though, it's almost as if calling is a foreign language! lol

I've stressed over it, i bought into the whole idea of email and texting and all the other technological crap.

But people are more than a name in a phone - and so am I. So I tell people now "if you want to talk to me, call me or plan to meet up" because I'm done with the whole device-talking bullshit.

Same with hand written letters, I've started doing them again and I'm loving it! I lick a stamp and post it, and it's great!

I love this thread. 🙂

I try to visualise a world without as much technology quite often, it keeps my heart/mind in the right place.

I mean for one thing, I think without all this cummunication tech we'd appreciate things and each other so much more. I think it's bought on alot of arrogance and ignorance all over the world too. A text is so easy to forget about/ ignore but a person stood in front of you or on the other side of the phone isn't. It's certainly a good idea not to rely on mobile phones and computers too much. I think all this interface bs kinda makes us forget that each other are actually other human beings. It's even kinda sad really.

It IS sad, there's a huge part to relationships that is missing if it's done via technology. How much nicer is it of someone says to your face "I missed you, hon", followed by a hug and a kiss, instead of a text that says "i misd u".

Argh!

Want a pizza? Jump online to order it.
Want to buy a book? get it online.
Want to talk to the tax department? Order stuff via an automated phone system.
Want to find out your bank balance? Use the internet.

Jeez, even my doctor's surgery TEXT me an appointment!

Ah, holding hands, talking (lol, not with my tax man or doctor btw), snuggles, whispered sayings in the ear of the romantic interest you have - it's brilliant.

texting and emailing just doesn't cut it, especially when it's between two people who are wanting to get to know each other. what will happen in later years? they going to text each other from the same couch "fancy a shag?" "Not tonight, i have a headache, darling" "Oh, okay, hope you get better soon, let me know if you need an aspirin—

Lol, here is scorpios horoscope today:

Scorpio Sep 19 2010
Technology has made it so easy to communicate. We can transport our thoughts across the continent in just moments. We can express our deepest desires with a few quick keystrokes. And therein lies the danger. It's very easy to relay impulsive thoughts and feelings -- whether they are angry, desperate, unkind, empathic, or loving. Sometimes these thoughts and feelings are fleeting, but once they enter cyberspace they become permanent. Be very careful today when you express yourself.
