I'm gemini rising and I have long, skinny limbs and hands and curly hair, typical of gemini. Mercury is opposite my ascendant, emphasizing this.
The rising IS your appearance, and other things too like how you relate to people, your automatic responses to things, how people see you, and the impression the get when they first meet you. The sign and the degree determine the houses In your chart.
