Communicating with a Cap girl

So i'm a Virgo with a Libra moon, she's a Cap with a Virgo moon. She gives me most of the free time of her busy schedule, I give her mine and at first it was all almost perfect. Then she started opening a bit... and with that, it got complicated, she would say I'm not listening and she started disappearing - and reappearing in what seemed like a great mood, only to repeat the cycle next time she would open up. And that's the only reocurring theme, other than that we click in almost everything.

When she tried to explain the issue to me, it would boil down basically to her heeling awkward and kinda sulky putting herself out there, all the effort of telling me something personal... without getting back the response she anticipated even once. Everytime she decides to give it another shot and share something (be it a close relative slowly dying or some funny highlight of the day or a story from the days when her parents were young), it inevitably ends in yet another misunderstanding. She gets the impression that what she says bores me, that I don't really care, and in the end it gets to the point she avoids saying anything to avert feeling it's bothering me.

I'm on my wits' end, I've tried nodding and facial expressions of all kinds (there I get blamed I already think about something else instead of really listening; well, I sort of do, I think 'don't screw it this time'), I've tried asking questions as the story unfolds (in which case I apparently don't let her finish telling the story the way she wanted to), I've tried relating my own experiences to it (which means I want to shift the focus to myself and don't care about her story at all), that kind of stuff. To add insult to injury, she blames herself for not being more entertaining as a conversation partner.

There must be something simple I keep overlooking. I have a hard time figuring her out and it's even harder for me to explain myself. Of course I care, that's why I'm so happy to be with her, she just won't stop getting all the wrong messages and twisting my words - a trait I can understand as I'm somewhat similar in that regard, yet it doesn't help me cope with it.

P.S. I may not be able to reply in a timely manner, different timezone being a minor reason, the bigger one is I'm leaving the country for two months tomorrow, it might take a few days till I get a decent interenet connection. It's also one of the reasons I want to get some hints on how to keep the convo going smooth in future.

Now that I think about it... yeah, I haven't done any of that, not really. And never really asked about her, more about the details of the story. Thank you. It will take some time to sink in, although looking back, I can already see that in the few cases that were not complete disasters, I indeed did support her in her (unvoiced) opinion and told her that she was right in thinking that. Never would have thought a girl like her would want to hear from me what she already knows for sure, I'd think it would roll off her like water off a duck's back. Food for thought, thanks again.

She is trying to trust you.
It not necessarily for you to open up, she understands you more than you know.
Although, you don't understand her sulky behavior she wants how and whether you will deal with it.
As a capricorn woman, I do not enjoy being emotional, but I realize that the only way for a relationship to grow is for me to let down the mask that I put up for the world and show the ugly scars beneath.
I expect my Virgo to see through my mask, and realize that I may not be the perfectly unemotional girl that he feel in love with, but stick around anyway.
Just don't go anywhere. Listen. Acknowledge that she was hurt by her past experiences.
Let her know that you are here now to protect her and you care for and support her.
Even, when, she gets emotional.
Be the calm when she enters her emotional storms and she will see you as a rock that she can swim to, in the storm.
