I agree with SimplyMe. It also seems that you have a pretty good understanding of him as well -- staying away from him since he may be hard for you to resist. You're doing the right thing because if he can get you to compromise and see him while he is still with his girlfriend, he may never choose to change anything.

He likes you, enjoys your company, and is obviously attracted to you...but he also has history with and true feelings for the other girl. He's confused. He can't see throwing away what he has with her for something new that may not even work out in the long run.
