I had a dream about some psychotic doctor who performed detrimental things on my teeth!!! So I ran out of there and snuck into my neighbors home. I think it's because I was pondering about my teeth yesterday since I'm getting braces AGAIN AND also taking out my wisdom teeth.. all 4!!

Has anyone taken out their wisdom teeth— How was the procedure like? I requested the doctor to put me to sleep.

wisdom teeth arent a big deal, as long as they numb u up. one place told me i had to wait for the oral surgeon who comes around once a month. i was there at 7 in the morning so i could still go to work. he was an hour and a half late and they never told me he wasnt even there. needless to say i got pissed and left. a week later i stopped into an office that an ex had worked at and they took me right away and the girl who took them out was one year out of dental school. if they cant pull them out, they just break them up with plier like things and suck out the debris. if theres roots further in they just make a slice on your gum and pull it out. it sounds bad but its really simple.

I haven't had my wisdom teeth out, they haven't really caused a problem for me so the dentist told me not to worry about it. I had to have my baby canine teeth pulled though when I was 14 or 15, because the permanents weren't making an appearance, even though they were there, but my baby canines wouldn't fall out because the permanents weren't positioned directly above the babies. Is there a more sophisticated word for "baby teeth?" 🙂 Anyway...

I had to have surgery where they pulled the baby canines, sliced open my gums, attached metal button-like things to the permanents, and then they somehow wrapped wires around the surrounding teeth (I had braces at the time) in order to *force* the new permanent canines to grow in at the correct angle. The surgery itself went fine, it's very weird how you just *snap* WAKE UP and don't have any sense of time having passed - but the recovery was not the greatest. The pain wasn't too bad as long as I had the gauze things in my mouth (and as long as the meds hadn't worn off), but when I had to eat something (yogurt), it was pretty much impossible and I remember just crying, because I was hungry and bleeding and in pain and I couldn't eat at all, normally, for the first maybe day and a half. Also the pain medicine they gave me, you had to swallow, with water, and not only could I not swallow because of the sucking action and the pain, but I went to do it thinking I could and dribbled it all down the front of myself. lol! Lovely. It's shocking how fast your mouth heals, though, I believe it's one of the fastest healing areas of the body. Within 3 days, I was getting back to normal. Brushing your teeth, though, is a very tricky process and it's easy to hurt yourself if you're not careful. Within a few days, all will be well again. 4 teeth at a time though, it might take a bit longer. But I'm sure the initial suckiness will be over within a week.

Well, just remember to stay relaxed as much as possible, it will speed up your healing time.

I was so incredibly nervous when I went in to have my teeth pulled, because I had never been put under any anaesthetic (sp??) before, and they were going to knock me completely out. So when the assistant or whoever was getting me ready, gave me my silly little hospital hat and everything, and put whatever heart monitor thing on me, it was funny because it wasn't a normal heartbeat pace, it was literally like..."beepbeepbeepbeepbeep". She smiled and said, "no one's ever died from this, don't worry. lol. I was quite relieved to hear that.

It's so strange, being put under like that, I remember the oral surgeon and his assistants all around me looking down on me and he said, "have a nice nap..." very comfortingly, and I was still nervous but I all of a sudden felt this very weird burning sensation all over, not painful just weird, and I distinctly remember the feeling of having *no control*, seconds before I blacked out. And then it seemed like two seconds had passed even though it was a couple hours, and I was awake. Incredibly weird.
