Do you like surprises?

7 years ago I threw a surprise birthday party to my Gemini best friend who lives in another country and he loved it. I talked to his friends without him knowing, managed everything by email, and they had a blast. (Without me, but still shared tons of pictures and I'm just glad he loved it)

And whenever I bring surprise gifts to my Gemini mother, she's so touched she feels like crying and reacts like I just gave her a brand new car, when all I did is bring her her favorite candy.

Now with Christmas approaching, I had an idea. I want to cheer up my Gemini close friend. He's going through a rough patch again. I do a lot for him already, help him find jobs, give him support, space when needed etc.
But I want to buy him two things that I know he will love.
I want to talk to his mother without him knowing about it for her to help me with some details, like receiving the package, etc.

So Geminis, do you like surprises? Do you like it when people do nice things for you, or do things that are meant to make you feel appreciated?
