Pretty much everyone I know has ghost stories to tell. Some are unsure of what they experienced and others are full fledged believers. These are people that have been/are in my life, and some of their experiences happened in places I was in or lived in as well, during the same time.
I can recall instances of being spooked, but i'm sure it's because I psyched myself out. I've never seen anything, never felt anything i'd attribute to spirits/ghosts. I've had nightmares sure, but in those dreams i'm fighting them rather than being scared to death. I usually have some superhuman strength or ability (one time my fingers could shoot out laser-like light lol). And every time i'm at the brink and physically tired of fighting them in my dreams someone shows up and relieves me. Those are dreams. IRL i am the skeptic, the non-believer, the fearless one that nothing paranormal ever happens to. I have no problem navigating my house in the dark, etc. I don't watch horror because i don't like blood and gore, and i pretty much think it a waste of time when i could be watching a good period drama.
Why does nothing happen to me, but happens to people around me? I mean if i'm told our place is haunted, shouldn't i notice things, too? Is it my attitude? am i not receptive enough?
This is a really late reply, but if anything still cares to read.... Ghosts are attracted to those with abilities and who give off negative energy through emotions...such as, those who are nervous, scared, angry, sad, etc...ghosts feed off of that. Therefore, those type of people can be more likely to have experiences. I think a bigger factor is the first thing I mentioned, though. Those with psychic abilites are likely to draw ghosts to them and, depending on the type of ability they have, may be more inclined to see ghosts than others, also.
Though, honestly, in the big picture, I can't tell you for sure. My parents have both had more experiences than me in my house, and even some of the people who have visited have had more experiences than me...and I exude fear and anger, yet, I've only seen one or two things. My excuse for that would be, is I block off any abilities I have to the other side because of my fear of it. I'm not sure if you're the same way or not, but that's how I would explain my situation.
