I didn't really know where to post this topic but health might be a good place for it.
I'm writing an english paper using the question: What If? I thought of a few things, but nothing good enough to write about. Until I came across an article in our english reader book. It's about consciousness. It explors the idea of animals having consciousness, and also goes into computers one day becoming self-conscious. There are those this article refers to as mechanics, those who believe in the future of computers, it's exsisting brain. Which I agree with. I do believe a computer has a brain.
There is allot of comparing though.
"But if the subject self rules the objective self, it doesn't do so with detachment. "My soul is not in my body as a pilot in a ship," wrote Descartes. The connection, he believed, is more intimate; the soul actually feels what the body feels and, indeed, can be temporarily commandeered by pain and other sensations deriving directly from physical stimuli. Thus, according to Descartes-and the avarage American- the causal connection between the physical and mental realms is two way: Mind affects body and body affects mind."
I must say I agree with this whole paragraph up here. But the next one makes me wonder.
"The average mechanic would disagree. He (or she) would argue that consciousness has the same relationship to your brain that shadows in the shadow play have to the puppets producing them. There is a close correspondence between the two at the given time, but not because the shadow is influencing the puppets determine shadows, and you brain determines how you feel. Thus the sense that some intangible aspect of youself has power and somehow affects you neurological activity is all in you head. This is the illusion of free will under which we all labor every day. To put mechanics' point in technical terminology: consciousness is merely an 'epiphenomenon' of physiological processes. It is affected by them but not affect them."
In the following paragraph what really grabed my attention, and of course written in simple words campared to the rest of the artical: "if may -feel- messy to the computer--all those sappy emotions burdening the binary spirit-"

I would love some opinions on what I've posted and maybe some imagination on what I quoted last. Think about what the world would have been like if, just like a computer, though conscious of our selves, -what if- we didn't have "all those sappy emotions burdening" us in any way.

If you believe in any CAM (Complimentary Alternative Medicine) you will most definately know that the mind, body, and spirit are all interconnected. I have learned that 98% of disease are rooted from a diseased soul. i.e. Cancer is often a cause from unresolved childhood resentment. Stroke is the symptom somone is wanting to check out of life.

This is all part of mind-body connection. Seriously we must be conscious what we are feeding our minds.
