Rare is a bond as strong as that of blood. The genetic material that links one person to another is impenetrable. But are we inherently drawn towards our relatives, or is it a choice? A consciousness we choose everyday to love, care, and be concerned with these individuals. I've gone back and forth about my feelings towards my family members. Some RELATIONSHIPs have continued to be strong while others have been neglected, disbanded, or were forgotten. I believe the measure of ANY RELATIONSHIP is in the effort that is put forth. RELATIONSHIPs are like children, who need to be tended to, CARED for, and looked after. Without the TIME and CARE ANY RELATIONSHIP can be easily lost.

Equally so, the negative or positive bonds our relatives present is a BIG part of what makes us. How they are developed helps to MOLD the RELATIONSHIPs we have with non-blood. Take for instance the RELATIONSHIP between brother and sister. My brother and I are almost three years apart, and as such our formative years were for the most part linked. When he went to prom, I went to prom. If he was going to watch the state championship for our basketball team, I was going too. We built such strong memories at this time. I look back very fondly at them. These experiences, however, all took EFFORT and COMPROMISE. We had compromised a COMMON ground. That wasn't and still isn't easy. Which tells me it takes much more than blood to CONNECT people.

And even after all this time, when I think our RELATIONSHIP will never change, he still surprises me. He is growing and evolving each day, as am I. I have found that it is easy to get caught up in foolishness and forget where our LOYALTIES lie. My mistakes have humbled me beyond description. But it's in these low times, among the destruction that I can see so clearly why God provided me with such amazing blood. Interesting how chaos can do that...offer clarity.
