The situation: My beloved co-worker found out his ex got married and is preganant possibly in reverse order but I digress. He is furious because she didn't tell him. She simply changed her last name on FB.

Anyway, this combined with a few comments from my date thread got me to thinking....What is up with this sense of entitilement?

Why do we think that people owe us something? They don't.

I only know because my dad gave me a talk when I turned 18.

It went something like this.....blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah...you are now 18. Your mother and I have did what we were required to do. Anything else we do for you from now on is because we want to not because we have to. Anything anyone else does for you is because they want to not because they have to. The WORLD DOES NOT OWE YOU A ...DAMN THING. (I only remember this because my dad did not curse and when he did it was odd).

Well that's really all I wanted to say.

Enjoy your Thursday or Friday (my New Zealand peeps).

You know Nala, I always love your stories about your Dad. Maybe somehow he reminds me of my dad. What's your dad's sign BTW?

Anyway, I really like his matter-of-fact way of saying things. Did it ever surprise or hurt you when he said stuff like this? Or were you able to see the wisdom in his little lectures?

A Pisces as was my mother. Howeve,r they were like night and day. My father was mild mannered. My mother was a little itty bitty pistol. Like a 38 special.

Sometimes he would hurt my feelings. One time I came home and started talking about all my rights as told to me by my American Government teacher. He smacked me right in the kitchen. I started crying and I said why did you do that. He said because I have the right too. I said no you don't. He said why. I said who gave you the right. He said exactly and walked away. I'm still not 100 % clear on that lesson. The older I get the more his lessons seem to make sense. I am surprised how many of them I remember.

In eight grade I came home an announced to him that pregnant girls had the best coochie. I said it just like that because that's what the boys in class were saying. He sat there and then said...well I can see how that could be true. You no longer have the fear that you will get pregnant so you can simply let go and enjoy yourself.

I stayed confused as a kid. 🙂
