American healthcare system 🤮

As I’m getting older I’m understanding how disgustingly awful ours is. You can be in a car accident (that is not your fault) and go to the ER and come home to a $ 40k bill just like that. No broken bones, stitches or anything, no overnight stays... $ 40,000 for a few hours at the hospital. And you better hope that other driver had car insurance coverage because if they didn’t, you’ll have to figure out how to foot the bill because the law doesn’t do much to those who don’t carry liability like they should.

When it comes to health insurance my parents are self-employed. Getting health insurance while being self-employed is kind of tricky and overpriced. When they mandated Obamacare my parents had to enroll and coverage for 4 people went up to $ 2,000 PER month for us at some point. It had pretty lame coverage and providers too.. I didn’t realize that until I got married and went under my husband’s employer health insurance. I was so amazed at how great the coverage was. I could get an annual extensive eye exam, glasses or a bunch of contacts, a lot of dental stuff without paying any additional copay. And it costs for both of us like around $ 150 per month for everything! My parents pay more than 6x to not be able to get a fraction of the coverage that I’m now getting... how is that possible?? If they want to be able to get a similar coverage as mine, they most likely would have to pay over $ 3,000 per month! I now see why people hold onto shitty jobs, it’s that decent, affordable healthcare coverage they use to keep people enslaved.

How does Medicare and Medicaid tie into all this? Do they use the high premiums charged to people from Obamacare to fund those?

Those of you who are self-employed or have a small business what kind of health insurance do you have?

When I had my own business we weren’t able to afford insurance with Obamacare.

BEFORE Obamacare when I’ve worked as IT pro I’d paid $ 200 for the family no co-pays, free prescription...everything...

After Obamacare my friend in same field paid $ 600 for not as good as I had coverage for 2 people.

So I am positive $ 400 she paid extra was covering those who had an insurance for free.

I was totally shocked when someone posted fuck small businesses because those are the ones that pay min wage and no benefits - and I was like wow!

Really FUCK!

Because all of the people who work at least 40 hours per week for small businesses can’t afford to get sick! It’s a volunteering slavery!

And I had NO idea when I had it all nice and cozy for $ 200 per month working for huge companies.

Now...imagine how much money those companies supposed to be making to afford all this luxury for their employees!

Fuck it. I don’t have a solution to this problem.

As someone from eu and from the part that is actually awful, we all know about it for years. My ppl who are living in the usa and in the western eu, come once a year and do everything, yearly checks up. There is even something that is called dentist tourism. Do tour teeth and have an apartment. I have family in Italy and even them come here to do stuff, same quality, 10 times lower prices. And we are also good for ppl who want to change gender.

Yes, there’s health tourism in Europe happening all the time.

I think we always joke... if you have an accident in the US, it’s better to catch the first flight out of there in first class and it would still be cheaper.

All roads lead back government control. In a real free market you would have more competitive prices for health & care. Government colluding with big business set prices to maintain hegemony.

I think she has a math degree. Math is very hard here where i am, but russia took it to another level. Not sure about application. Too much theory.

What does math have to do with being an "IT Pro"?

Additionally, we need to limit how much pharmaceutical companies can charge for life-saving medication.

Cause if she has a math degree it is very likely she had tons of courses in programming and in it.

IT Pro =/= programming

IT Pro could be networks and servers.

Regardless.. an IT Pro would 99.9% know how to post pictures/GIFs on the most outdated website on the web.
