Why?

If you lose your phone you still have your laptop.

I remember a week where I didn't have a cell phone (had to get it replaced). It was really freeing.

Right? The biggest thing I relied on about my phone was the calendar and the actual phone function. Email was helpful as well. I used it a lot in regard to all of my mom's medical matters. It's how docs got in touch with me, I kept track of her appointments, etc.

The perk was having it around to keep me occupied while I was in all those waiting rooms haha.

Otherwise, eh. I'm sure I'd feel weird for not having it around to keep me occupied when bored, but eh. I do have a tablet, laptop, and computer for internet purposes. *shrugs*

But to give up sex for this? People be cray.

While I'm not a fan of mobile phones and I wish everyone would go back to landlines so there would be no pestering "why don't you answer your phone? you have it everywhere with you"..

The first thing I thought of was emergency. You get into an accident in a remote location and need to dial 911. No amount of sex will dial that number up.

This is the first thing I think of if I forget my phone.

OMG WHAT IF THERE'S AN ACCIDENT AND I NEED IT?? Haha.

2 weeks sounds cool. full year? I don't know, there's a lot to consider. If I'm in a place where I don't need to worry about any emergency..I'm cool. I'd still have books with me to read but I could do without both.

Most things rank above having a car for me. There's public transportation. But I'm in Europe and a friend who moved to the States told me there are huge distances there so you can't just walk from one place to the next or take public transportation. So it might be necessary to have one there.

Whenever I ask people about giving up Internet..they always think of chatrooms and facebook and it's so easy to give that up.

But we do research on here also. There's no way I'd find that much information in other places..I love libraries but they come up short on new information.

And then there's torrents. No more music, no more movies..I couldn't do it at this point in time.

When I was young and it wasn't there? Yeah because I didn't know what I'd be missing.

I don't think it's only addiction..it puts you at a disadvantage professionally too (depending on the line of work).

^The question applies at this point in time.

I grew up without internet and cell phones too but now there are reasons I need both.

Do you really NEED both? 100% of the time?

If we go with needs, I need oxygen above everything.

100% of the time was what was being taken away in that article. not limited amount of time..100% of the time for a full year.

I'm in between. Could give away the phone more than I could the internet. Could give away both depending on circumstances for a limited amount of time. One year sounds cool in some scenarios. But the world we live in..it wouldn't be just about me giving it up. What about friends and family I have abroad..i'd have to write letters constantly. Basically me giving it up..I'm making the choice for other people to not be able to stay in contact with me at all. That seems..unfair.

Either way, I'm middle of the road here but between giving it up 100% forever and keeping it 100% forever..i'm more towards keeping it.

This, however, is weird to me:

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/10/091019172628.htm<BR>
Everyone tends to float off into space once in a while and fail to see what is sitting there right in front of them. Recently researchers decided to put the theory of —inattentional blindness?? to the test: the unicycling clown test. They documented real-world examples of people who were so distracted by their cell phone use that they failed to see the bizarre occurrence of a unicycling clown passing them on the street.

Compared with individuals walking alone, in pairs, or listening to their ipod, cell phone users were the group most prone to oblivious behavior: only twenty-five percent of them noticed the unicycling clown. The walkers not using a cell phone noticed the clown over fifty-percent of the time.

So people are not having sex and not noticing unicycling clowns moving up and down the street.

Over their cell phone.

...dafuq is wrong with people? Maybe they just make use of the phone's vibrate function...?

In all seriousness though, I think it's just the basic ideas of addiction taking over thought processes though. :/

Less than a third would prefer their cell phone.

That's not good, but I figured it was

going to be a majority.

Still... damn.

I always have a phone, I need it for business and pleasure purposes, like games, dxp, or google. I work graveyard shift and need to stay awake...I feel naked without it..but to replace phone with sex. I can do without sex for a little while. And can't live without my phone in case of emergency. I know people who don't like phones or have them and still take forever to reply, like my whole family..

Eh, maybe it's for the best. We don't need those types procreating anyway.

I am basically giving up phone and internet whenever I go to my grandparents' village..which did extend to 2 months at a time on summer break.

Serenity is nice.

"Village"? Are they Mormon or something? LOL!

This is Romania.

Anything outside of cities is either a forest, village, "scenic ruins", or an asylum.

Oh yeah, I forgot she's Romanian LOL! I'd be scared to go to Romania, I feel like I'd be stolen by gypsies

You wouldn't be stolen by gypsies silly. That's what my dad used to threaten me with into behaving when I was small.
