Caring about members you know

It's not a serious question. Just bored.However. We all are here in love-hate relashionships and what strikes me is following:
When member we know posts something about themselves that involving others we don't know...we are immediately jumping into defense of that stranger we don't know instead of maybe cutting slack for our own like member we had been in touch for months or even years!
It's like other places - workplace for example trying to protect employee saying she didn't steal it! Or she is usually says FU just once! Or no, he is a good guy and he never punched anyone that hard before!
So here we need to work up tolerance to our own!
Like if someone is cheating on someone we don't know - it is probably that person we don't know fault!
Because we don't know that person!
Maybe they deserve it! Right?
So on so forth...
What do you think?
I think it's not so much about defending the stranger as it is about letting the poster know of their choices for their own well-being.
Or rather what's perceived as the poster's own well-being...
