Posted by KatanaThanks for sharing this! Female James Bonds-love it!

Posted by KatanaYes, that is the segment I was referring to haha. I was quite pleased some light has been shed on this topic since it's denoted as 'women whining' when in reality it is a concerning issue the amount of harassment women face in a general sense. Gaming can be a safe haven, yet, we aren't even guaranteed that.Posted by VirgoreanYou're welcome 🙂Posted by KatanaThanks for sharing this! Female James Bonds-love it!
And yes Vice! They did a good segment on gamer girls in the industry. Interesting statistic, women arose to be the majority now. (Think of the industry as a whole, not focus on 1st person shooters).
I love Vice they have great documentaries! I haven't seen the segment you mentioned yet but I did watch another one called GTFO that centers around female gamers and how they make up a large percentage of the gaming community as you stated. It highlights the extensive harassment, double standards and sexism they face from their male counterparts and how some of them have even opted to play as male characters to minimize the harassment. Some of them have been hacked, threatened, stalked and had their personal info leaked online. It's crazy.
I'm a gamer myself and I personally haven't really dealt with harassment (not that I would be putting up with that shit anyway), I've only dealt with disrespect online when I'm playing with little kids and of course you're going to run into ignorant people every now. Hopefully these women fight back and change things in the gaming industry for gamers of future generations.

Posted by KatanaI like all the games you mentioned. Skyrim and AC can be a bit monotonous though. Too repetitive. Ps4 and the nostalgic platform games like Super Mario.Posted by VirgoreanLikewise! My favorite games are open world adventure games like Destiny, Skyrim, Assassin's Creed, Grand Theft Auto, Watch Dogs, Saints Row etc. I like games that I can just play with ease, chill and have fun. I really like MMOs as well, RPGs are cool it just depends on what kind of RPG it is and I love first-person shooter games too. I get quite competitive in PVP as well, it's very fun. What's your console of choice or do you prefer PC?

It's nice to meet fellow female gamers 🙂. What type of games do you play?
And yes, the sad fact of the nature is competition correlates to harssment for women. More competitive = increased harassment. I prefer MMO'S/RPG type games and I can become a bit competitive myself in the PVP environments. Unfortunately, I have resorted to playing male characters in order to play in peace. In part because as a male, you gain more respect and your advice is valued. Whereas, women are patronized and assumed to be damsel in distresses (absolutely hate). And when you offer advice it is taken with a grain of salt because players presume you don't know what you are talking about, merely, from being female. And There's a lot of pettiness involved when women begin to make a dent in a male-dominated industry. I've never felt harassed to the point of threats, but I have felt the belittling and disrespect when discussing character stats and my opinions have been completely dismissed when a male would say the same thing and it'd have merit. Therefore, I can understand why those female gamers feel demoralized. There are men who add to the misogynistic environment to keep women out intentionally. It isn't enough we have to deal with it in reality, but to be reminded of 'our place' in the virtual world is sickening.
Damn sorry to hear that you've experienced sexism in that way, that sucks. I understand what you mean though. Some guys are even surprised when a woman plays well which is so condescending. I just excuse their ignorance and move on but it shouldn't even happen in the first place and the problem is that is does. It is all very sickening, I agree.click to expand

DXPnet! I go through phases where I binge watch a bunch of documentaries as a way to spark interest in a specific topic to further research.
I've just got done watching '13th' on Netflix and I went to the library and got the book 'The New Jim Crow.' I went to a community enrichment screening of a documentary called 'You Belong to Me,' and there was a post-screening discussion that sparked my interest in the topic of the United States prison system, modern slavery, and the mass incarceration of minorities, particularly blacks.
Have any of you recently seen a documentary that you believe is worth watching. All suggestions are recommended (even those that come with a warning such as, "This is a false perspective on X topic but it is worth a watch to help you understand why Y group of people may think the way they do.")
