A practical solution to the problem would be encouraging our allies to fend for themselves, and aiding them to get to their goal of being self sufficient. Gradually, no cold turkey but slowly and surely so that they are able to fend for themselves and not always rely on us. So that their own military capabilities can be their first resort, not ours.

:p. Just thought that maybe I should state what I believe could be a plausible solution because I forgot to do so earlier.

Careful, that's the same argument that I've been using. Apparently it's illogical.

Hey all I"m saying is at least we DO something. How would you like if you couldn't defend yourself?

That seems to be a big difference between my way of thinking and others.

I wouldn't put myself in a position where I couldn't defend myself.]

Sure but what you arguing is for them to completely leave the Middle East which at the moment is not really all the possible.

Let's go to the part where I talk about how that plan would work out over years and/or decades... as in NOT this moment. As in NOT an instant gratification solution.

Your idea is not bad in theory but in reality... many countries neighboring China fear their growing power and request a stronger U.S. power there to defend them. This foreign desire along with the economic interests of the U.S. is what is going to keep them there.

I wouldn't like it at all, that's why I would have the people protecting me teach me how to defend myself. So I wouldn't have to spend my unnaturally long life as a country relying on someone else's power and defensive abilities :p.

Well that's what the U.S. wants to do.

The United States has wielded its military supremacy to act as world police since the end of the Cold War and, arguably, even longer. Is the assumption of this —office?? by the United States appropriate given that the US exists, for all intents and purposes, as a representative democracy?

If Americans expect to maintain the right to direct the governance of their own affairs, by what divine right do they claim the prerogative to direct those of others? Is the policing activity of which Americans have been guilty the past several decades, at a minimum, hypocritical? Why/why not?

Anyways I stand behind what I said from the beginning. The U.S. is a super power and countries have asked for their help around the world so... calling them 'World Police' is justified. Do they impose Democracy? NO...do they support and promote democracy? YES. And we are only guilty the majority of the time of wearing away our own country at the benefit of others.

Just so you know I am taking a Macro Economics course right now with a book published in 2012 and they still uphold that outsourcing is actually good for the economy.

Depending on how daring you are, the next time you're in that class, you might ask the prof if he could explain to you how something the reduces domestic employment can benefit the overall economy. Given that it is only people who are employed who have incomes from which they pay taxes and purchase products and services.

One of the reasons behind it is that since we are putting money into another foreign countries economy they will have money to invest and expand there own business ventures here in the U.S. But I mean seriously there are a whole bunch of confusing this that and the others to explain it to be honest.

That's been the argument for the last 30 - 40 years, and if you observe the raw data (not the statistics - most of those are lies), you will see that the standard of living has fallen in essentially a straight line since the outsourcing boom was implemented. There are myriad factors that feed into this, but the single largest and most basic one is that we are buying more of their goods than they are reinvesting here.

I am serious about my question. I'd love to know what your prof has to say.

Next is I'm going to have read this entire thread from beginning to end to figure out who won. Seriously, you all did a very good job. The winner will receive 9 points. After I've declared the winner, it will be time for the immunity challenge. I'd like to post it at a time when the greatest number of you can see it at the same time. Comments/suggestions on when that might be?

Please, for the love of all that is good in this world, can the next debate topic be something fun or at least interesting?

My give-a-crap seriously died about half-way through this one.

Since a number of you are conveniently here right now, let's talk...

...what would be some fun/interesting topics?

I saw some of the ones you posted earlier, TMV.

Burger King vs. McDonalds?

...I'm a vegetarian.

Not cool lol.

You're a vegetarian? That's cool, do you eat eggs or dairy?

If she did wouldn't she call herself a 'vegan' and not a 'vegetarian'? 😛

Is that the difference between those two? I never knew...

It's weird, I will only eat eggs if i'm at a diner or if someone else makes them for me. I go through phases with eggs and milk where I just...can't

Yeah, I can understand that. I would like to give up dairy but I just can't force myself to like the soy stuff.

*gag face*

The soy is also seriously bad for your health.
