If you are unaware of the fight for "net neutrality" and what it means, the above video is the quickest, most succinct, and most entertaining way I know to bring you up to speed.
Essentially, "net neutrality" is the principle that Internet service providers and governments should treat all data on the Internet equally, not discriminating or charging deferentially by user, content, site, platform, ect.
What internet providers, such as Comcast, want to do is divide the internet into two tiers.
One is the fast lane.
The second is the slow lane.
Sites like hulu and Netflix and YouTube and many others would have to pay providers tons of money for the fast lane to keep their content streaming at optimum speeds while smaller sites will be stuck with dial up turtle type connections...
And YOU KNOW what that means for dxp...
We're already slow as shit.
Also, it could mean paying to use sites like Facebook and YouTube.
They are going to divvy the internet up into cable packages.
I know this may be old news to some of you, however
To anyone who wants to keep the internet free, fast, and open for anyone to access any site,
Internet is like an undiscovered country it must be stay and free at all cost —free to explore without limitations??, away from any rules sets by any groups of local despots and dictators.
Unless, we all wish to live in electronic dystopian societies.
Net Neutrality simply means that ISPs can't slow down, block, or prioritize any content.
If net neutrality is overthrown it hurts the large AND the small.
Huge sites streaming tons of data will be told: "pay up or we'll slow you down till your customers leave cause they can't stand buffering for 45 minutes" milking them for everything.
Small sites will be told: "pay up or we'll slow you down to infuriating less than dxp speed" and a lot of them won't be able to afford it.
Both the great and small being hurt to give more profit to ISPs.
It's mafia tactics.
"It'd be a shame if something were to happen to how quickly your users got their content."
Because they just can't seem to squeeze enough money water out of the American people sponge.
Buckets and buckets but it's never enough...
