Since the other thread I made about generalizations got flagged due to a few people's inability to have a civilized debate. I decided to make another one because I thought it was unfair how some other people's intelligent posts were completely deleted because some people could not be mature. However, this time around I decided to make the topic of discussion a bit more broad. This topic now includes generalizations in all matters--whether it be culture, race, or astrology. I'd like to hear some of your thoughts on the matter whether like-minded or different. Or share some your personal stories concerning generalizations. Keep in mind that although this is open for debate, it is not for harassment, so please be sure to keep the rudeness level to a low degree. Thank you. 🙂

Well my topic of discussion is going to be that of a military sense. I believe that what the government is doing in the terms of cutting down in military forces is a very poor one at that. With the way things are going, we're experiencing a depression (I believe so at least) and things can easily get out of hand. Riots could break out and the police forces aren't all going to be able to handle it themselves. Call up the national guard and all that great shit! That's what the military is there for! To serve and protect, but the government seems to think otherwise. What a bunch of pieces of shit if you ask me. I hate our government and the direction it's heading towards. I strongly believe that this country is no longer a free nation, instead it headed towards a dictatorship! Obama better get his ass in gear and buck the fuck up!

And also why decrease our military forces when we're still sending our soldiers into the east and having them put their lives on the line just as a gamble. I believe that the government shouldn't be decreasing the forces but trying to reach out to people to help it's country and become a true citizen and serve for a short period of time. I'm not talking about a draft now, just people who truly want to help make this country into something better, wether it be through military or politics. Somebody has got to do something about improving our current situation!

Hopefully what I said doesn't get flagged now!

LOL, military. You bringing up that point makes me remember the generalizations of soldiers I've heard. Things I've heard from the grapevine:

*They join because they're violent, malicious people who only seek to kill other human beings.
*They're poor which is why they opt to join the military for money.
*They are stupid and cannot get into college which is why they joined the armed forces.
*After going through war, they're all insane and depressed.
*They're mindless.

LoL I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion of the military. I joined because everyone in my family is prior service and I wanted to become a part of that tradition. My choice, not because I'm violent, poor, stupid, manic, or mindless. But because of the simple idea of tradition in my family. I've had 2 family members join the national guard and the rest has been spread out. 4 of whom are officers. I too am hoping to become and officer, and that is why I'm currently working on my bachelors degree so I can put opt to go officer just like my 4 other family members.

I totally agree with everything you said Smiles. People tend to think that military men are nothing but a bunch of apes running around with weapons because they are too poor/stupid to do anything else. It pisses me off when those types start up with that crap.
My fiance is serving because it's a family tradition. It was his calling. People can't wrap their ignorant minds around a person wanting to serve their country not for money or opportunity but for honor and the preservation of the Nation we love. People take basic freedoms forgranted and they forget who fought and spilled blood for them to HAVE those freedoms. And it's unbelievable to me. It's so sad. I get very worked up over people looking down their noses at military members. It makes me so mad 😢

I knew there was a reason why I liked you gingerscorp! 😄

But yeah it irritates me when people talk down on military members when they themselves have no idea what we sacrifice and endure just so people have their so called freedom. Tradition is what I believe in firmly and it'll live through me or die through me.

Some random person I was chatting with a few days ago said, "You know I think I'm gonna stay away from Mexicans. To which I replied, "Um, why?" They answered, "Well because they all have swine flu." I then did a wtf face and then said, "Um...not all of them have swine flu so the likelihood of being around a Mexican and getting it isn't that high. Not a lot of people have even contracted it in the United States." To which they said, "Well I just hate Mexicans. They're dirty."

James and Ginger; The situation with my college is simple. I get tuition assitance and yes, the infamous GI bill. So I'm going to school completely free of charge and am still getting paid for my service to the military. And even if I were to get out; there's something I believe it's called the 9/11 Bill or something of the sort where I get E5 pay every month for attending a college full-time. So the military takes care of it's service members!

Only a supposed 2yrs left before I try to opt to be an Officer! Wish me luck everyone!

Nice smiles! Good for you. An officer huh... eh... be good to your guys when you make it. My guy (enlisted Staff Sargent) kinda dislikes alot of his officers. There are a few he likes but he said alot of them are really holier then thou. I guess it doesn't help he had an LT right out of Westpoint. That guy... jeez I heard SO much bitching about how clueless he was but SO arrogant.
When they were in Iraq the LT (his first tour to my guy and his friends 3rd tour) made some really really poor choices. Of course they had no choice but to follow orders. They hated that guy. Sometimes I almost felt sorry for him because of the things they'd say about him

But I have faith in ya Smiles. I'm sure you are going to be a kind and excellent leader!!! 🙂

Thanks Ginger! That truely means a lot. I promise not to be a complete asshole; I'm sure I'm going to have my moments when I act like a complete jackass or idiot, but I'll be new to the whole process as well so I'm hoping to become somewhere along the lines of Supply Officer haha. I'll be everyone's hookup! Works for me! I've already done a tour in the navy; via IA (Individual Augmentee). It was by choice as well, made quite a bit of Skittles off of it though. I was pretty much wide eyed and pretty much out of breathe when I saw my back account when I got back hahahahaha.
