Well if it's not working it's broken and you can't repair it .. Even though you glued it back together and let it stand once more, eventually it's going to lose its value and become a piece of trash why.

Because deep down we can't repair it any longer and there fore suck up and go get another of the same or equal to the other.. It just wasn't met to be.Take a penny, give a penny.

To me it means that if you love someone you should think about their happiness over your own. For instance, in a situation where the person you love is at their breaking point and isn't happy with you anymore, instead of being selfish and wanting to keep them for yourself, you let them seek their own happiness. Since, if you love someone, their happiness should matter to you, as well. Its like people who would keep a caged bird who's not fairing well versus someone who would let it free to give it a chance of a better life

Or is it "if you love something, let it go" I never understood this quote. If you love it, why would you let it go? Wouldn't you want to hold it tight and cherish it? How do you interpret this quote.. serious replies only please, I really want to understand this.
If something is past it's time you. Are still going to continue with it?

Or if it's a one sided and you feell more, what are you going to do? Stay ?

I was engaged to a wonderful guy - but we were very young. Met when I was 14, engaged at 19 and due to marry at 21... I didn't get cold feet really - but I panicked that this would be it. I asked him for a year out - he declined (quite correctly) and so I had no option but to end the relationship. I knew that I needed to experience other things - and I knew that the risk would be that I'd lose him forever. We both moved on, successfully, and that was it. Sometimes you've just got to let them go so you don't hurt them or ask them to make compromises that are too much for them.

i think the quote is something along the lines of "If you love someone, set them free. If they come back they’re yours; if they don’t they never were."
to me, that means that a relationship shouldn't be restrictive.

you can't keep tabs on a partner. if someone is going to cheat, they are going to cheat. our partners must have the space to be their own person and we have to trust them to know they are ours even when you're apart. if they cheat and deceive given those conditions then they were never yours. no amount of controlling behaviour or attempts to cling and try to keep people loyal and close to us, works. ultimately people are going to do whatever they are going to do.

i only apply that to people already in a relationship though. i don't think it applies if you want to be a relationship with a person, then the saying just keeps you hanging around and living in hope that one day you'll be together.

Because if they want to go or it's not working, you holding onto them is not love. It's holding them captive.
Exactly. It's coercion.

Why would you want someone to stay with you out of pity, obligation, or any reason other than because being with you makes them happy? I also think this quote is less specifically intended for those going through a break up, and more intended to serve as a helpful reminder for those in the midst of a relationship, and are unhappy about it.
