Job opening, how to find the right candidate to become an employee?

So I’m in a position where I’m involved in finding the right candidate to fill a job opening.

The opening is for a trainee role, the potential employee will mainly be trained by me.

From seeing previous recruitment drive at my company I want to avoid the mistakes of my predecessors, who interviewed people, employed them and for it to turn out to be a mistake.

What should I look for within a resume as a filter point?

What should I look for during the interview stage?

What should I look for during the employee’s probationary period?

I know the type of people who would be good candidates based on current employees who are great examples.

From looking at a person’s resume and interview there is normally a façade. How do I peel away at a façade to see if a person is lazy, prone to taking shortcuts, high strung, sensitive, emotional, aggressive and abrasive?

Ask them unconventional questions, like “ if you could be color, what would you be and why?” They won’t be ready for it so u catch them off guard and their response may surprise you 😆
