Said the stupid ass extreme liberals...

How stupid can people be? This was brought up last year and made the news again this week. Ammo at approximately $ 16.00 a box vs. $ 30,000.00 to put deer on the pill for 70 - 120 deer—... What will these assholes think of next? I know of many who will go in, shoot the deer for food and solve the problem in one day. Unfuckingbelievable!

Town to Put Deer on the Pill
Alternative to hunting them
By: Daniel D. Snyder
ommunities in New York??s Westchester County have long used hunters to control deer populations, but now one town, Hastings-on-Hudson, is taking a more progressive approach. The town, together with Tufts University??s Center for Animals and Public Policy, will conduct the first experiments in deer regulation using immunocontraception, or, more simply, birth control.
More than 50 residents have already volunteered to help with the experiment, tracking the animals so they can be trapped and treated.

—It's brilliant,?? said center director Dr. Allen T. Rutberg of the contraceptive vaccine, which will use the animal??s own immune system to prevent it from fertilizing offspring. —It works on a lot of animals, even elephants.??

The small town, which measures only about two square miles, is believed to be home to some 70 to 120 deer.

The program will cost an estimated $ 30,000 for the first two years, but Hastings mayor Peter Swiderski is confident the issue is pressing enough to warrant the effort. In 2011 there were 16 car collisions reportedly involving deer, and Mayor Swiderski himself contracted lyme disease from a deer tick, as did his entire family.

The town plans to submit the proposal to the State's Department of Environmental Conservation within a month.

I'll play devil's advocate. This is one of the reasons why i dont support hunting unless absolutely necessary and done sportingly- What if it was legal for someone to just hide somewhere and shoot people as they mind their business? I love my life and have developed a respect for different life. Even cutting down/ out meat intake in most cases. Just to give a take on how hunting turns some people's stomach and why they would try to reduce it. Also i saw 2 deers yesterday i didnt want to kill them for no good reason. Just my take on it.

Well there's an apples to skyscrapers comparison.

Yeah, I don't see it exactly like that, either.

An overabundance of deer is a perfect example of why hunting is appropriate, at times.

Some don't have the stomach for it (I sure don't want to do it)-- but others do (obviously).

And plus-- venison. 😄

It doesn't usually work (the type of program described in the article).
70 deer in two square miles is not good. Usually areas where rational land management occurs want no more than 35 to 40 deer per square mile.
Higher than that usually translates to ground cover used by other animals being generally stripped, and that deer population is going to starve.
More humane to take out the old and weaker deer with one quick sharp shot.

This plan(or "experiment" as the article puts it)is not only fiscally-wasteful. There's another issue in play: who in their right mind will continue hunting the local deer with the intent of consumption, with the addition of hormonal birth control in the prey's system?

Byproducts of these contraceptives are prone to making their way up the food chain if other species, including humans, eat the venison.

In terms of using elephants as a shining example? The same rule wouldn't apply, given that elephants are generally not(if ever)consumed by humans, nor are they fed birth control in the wild. Since there is hardly an overabundance of elephants(due to extended gestational periods & having been hunted for their tusks in the past)it's not really a fair comparison.

In summary; I doubt many will be thrilled to hunt wild game for personal consumption, if it's tainted with medication containing artificial-estrogen, thus giving hunters less incentive to help control the abundance of wild deer.

Poorly-planned solution that reeks of desperation, IMO.

Welcome to the usual dipshit no brains politically ran state of NY that will soon be no more when the Republicans step back in. When Cuomo and the new chump mayor Di blasio get knocked out the rest will go. My state will hopefully redeem itself. Cuomo changed our state constitutional rights twice. Once with his stupid ass gun laws and recently voting laws to get casinos. He's out... There's rumor that Mr. Trump will run for Governor...lol..I look at it this way. The man knows how to run a business. If he can balance the very severe deficit this state is in, stop raising my property taxes, I say go Mr. Trump! Just get it done. Get the friggin liberal assholes & the sterilization asswipes OUTTA HERE!

A simple solution would be to reintroduce natural predators into the area to control the deer populations. Then we would not even have to pay for ammo. Just sayin.

No. The BLM, although they deny it even when have been caught doing it, reintroduced grey wolves into a lot of wilderness areas where they were wiped out. There is a reason those wolves were wiped out, one of them being that when the deer and elk are gone, wolves suddenly acquire a taste for cattle.

Plus, having those predators in close proximity to human habitation is not going to end well.

Trapping . . . white-tail deer.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!! 😄

City folk . . .

I'm happy to report I'm far and well enough away from that rotten stinking apple.
Hell we have professional bow hunters up here, that can fix the problem real quick, and remove the younger ones out of there.

You should see hunting season...lol. The city assholes come up in their "gear" shoot each other left and right. We actually gamble on how many will be shot. What'd rabbit say? ..idiots. Yep..

Why? We have hunters every year and aside from lining ones personal freezer folks make donations that go to local or Amish butchers. Trickles down to a lot of good meat that feeds a lot of destitute folks.
Not to mention it would suck the fun out of those late night fervent D and R or local law enforcement calls cos you bagged Bambi or Falene on a seemingly star and moon devoid night.
The vultures are gonna be pissed...

This is crazy. This needs to be sent right over to PETA. Wonder what the PETA and environmentalists are saying to this?

We have hunters who donate deer meat to the food banks keeping the homeless people and people who cannot afford food fed.

I would think that PETA and the environmentalists would be all over it-- sounds like it's right up their lunatic alley.

probably. And yet they bitch about slaughterhouse animals being fed hormones. SMFH!

Honestly I think the most humane solution is to save the pills for the Georgetown chicks, and encourage people to safely hunt the deer.

More sustainable way to get meat (those free-lovin deer will replace their population wicked fast, so no worries about that), healthier, cheaper, and less need for factory farmed meat.

Nice (grad school; not knocked up deer).

And no, one of my good friends hails from Boston-- it was your "wicked fast" comment that tipped me off.
