The Royal Caribbean cruise ship Explorer of the Seas, on which nearly 700 crew members and passengers fell ill, returned home today to Bayonne, New Jersey.

It was the largest case of sick people reported on any cruise ship in two decades.

Why would they bring 700 contagious people to a shore of eight million without quarantining them first? This is how Swine flu started in 2009. Unbelievably STUPID!!!!

It's pretty fast moving too. Depending on how far out they were and how long it took to get back to port, some folks might have already passed the contagious stage.

I hope you're right about that. I had Swine, and it took a month to rid. It lasted 14 days then went into Pneumonia for another 14 days. Horrible pain. Took another two weeks to get my strength back. I am not a sickly type of person either.

Regarding this, we will know very quickly via news if this spreads. SuperBowl Sunday and NYC this weekend will be a sure test!

Some quotes of passengers:

"Best cruise of my life," one passenger joked as he left the ship. "I lost five pounds."

"Are we bringing this virus off the ship with us?" asked Shannon Blace, a passenger from Toronto who was traveling with a party of 12 people -- 10 of whom have been sick. "We're all going to hotels all over the New York area. Will we be spreading the virus to the Super Bowl this weekend?"

Royal Caribbean wants this done and out of the news ASAP. Get 'em ashore, hose down the ship, and pack on the next load of cattle for the next run of the S.S. Bilge Star to the Dry Tortugas.

Stories like this are bad for business.

Exactly. It's the cattle that will be in the SuperBowl stadium Sunday and prior the NYC festivities attractions going on now that I'm waiting to hear about.

Imagine if part of that contingent was part of the local Food Workers union....
Gives a new meaning to "runny eggs".

This is right. My husband got norovirus on a cruise and it lasted precisely 24 hours. I picked it up from him, and also had it 24 hours.

It was an extremely intense and weird sickness, but was gone before you could blink.
