I'm hoping someone here can help me get to the bottom of this. I work in a casino as a cage cashier. This isn't my primary job but I do work seasonal, part time. The pay is good and I enjoy working there. It has been a year and I have never had any write ups. I always show up on time and follow procedures. I deal with large amounts of cash and my drawer always balances. Until last night.....

There is a bank within the cage and I exchange cash with the banker as needed. When I counted down last night my drawer was over by $ .43 which is good.

This afternoon I received a call from my boss asking me what happened. It seems that I was over $ 600! They found this when they counted the straps of money which I don't open and recount.

The error was caught by the banker last night but she changed the numbers and forced the balance claiming the supervisor told her to. He is not answering his phone. He worked in the bank most of the night too. The bank numbers all balanced. All three of us out now suspended pending investigation. The banker will most likely be fired for forcing the balance and the supervisor for telling her to do so. I may keep my job if they determine where that money came from. I am very careful and count down on the mat in front of the customer. I wouldn't miss $ 600 and I'm sure a customer would notice if I shorted them that much.

Is there anyone here with experience in accounting or auditing? What could have happened? I'm trying to save my job.

Never mind. I just got a call. I am fine, they did something wrong with paperwork in the bank. I don't know the details but they are both terminated. My count was correct. I was $ .43 off.
I was going to say exactly that until I scrolled and read your update. You were there a year, never been off. The right people were terminated. Big error in judgement there.. My guess is it wasn't their first time doing this.
