I went on my first protest today. I stood on the curb on the highway bridge during one the its busiest times, and I proudly held up a sign that read: "Hatered Cannot Drive Out Hatred." My boyfriend held up a sign that read: "Resist Racism," and the gentleman (who always protests there with his friend) held up an anti-war sign.

We held our signs and brandished the hand sign that signifies peace (but can also mean 'victory.')

It was hot outside, but we didn't care. Many people showed support by honking their horns and returning our peace hand signs. For the time I was there, we got only one guy who gave us the finger.

I am still processing how I feel about it all, but I know that I will make this a habit to do every week.

This is something I thought about often, and I am happy to finally act on it. It's an important step (and an addition) to my usual activism through volunteerism. Do any of you have secret (or not so secret) wishes to stand up for something that is important to you or that you feel is important for others? What would your sign read? Have you ever participated in a protest? Would you like to? Do you personally know anyone who has?

There are many forms of contributing, whether it is private - in your own life or public. It could be during a moment you stood up for someone or a moment you stood up for yourself (and indirectly, for someone else.) People can me very inspiring, and I know those people also exist on the Internet and, dare I say, on this very website.

I lay down in the middle of the road once with hundreds of others at an anti war protest

Such an amazing day

🙂
did it stop the war?

There is no telling what good came from all of you uniting and standing up for what you believe in. It's a very powerful display, and if you sparked courage in even just one person or if you inspired even just one person to ask questions and to illuminate themselves on what is going on in the world outside of themselves - then, in my mind, it was worth it was worth it. May those who wish to stand up never feel discouraged.

I wanted to rally for the black lives matter a couple weeks back, but then I realised who created it.

I really want to stand up for autism and a real advocate for autism awareness.

I'm due time. I feel like I'm not yet qualified to be a sound and just voice for such a cause I so passionate about.
I have a brother with autism, and I would never resent someone who was passionate about being an advocate for autism awareness even if he or she personally felt unqualified. As you pursue your cause, you'll naturally learn more about it. ?

I would hold up a mirror
I love that idea! That's powerful. What would you be symbolizing? Is the concept to encourage people to begin looking within when thinking about making change?
You can put "different human beings of the world" or what makes you human

Ive only been to two gatherings, one was for free hugs and the other was to legalize marijuana.

I wasnt an active participant for both but I found the whole thing amusing.

"Ignorance" is suffering itself. Being human is difficult. I think for us to actually get somewhere is to understand the "evils" and that everyone is capable of being evil*. Empathy should be given to who we consider as enemies*. It is a lie to think that we want peace but we call those that we are against as enemies. We think we know better when we just think differently. If we do know better, then we must act with care if peace is what we want to begin with.

Evil* cannot destroy evil*

There is a lot of truth in what you say. Thank you for sharing.
