America??s rising generation of adults are the least religiously observant of any generation in six decades, determined an expansive study led by Jean Twenge, a psychology professor at San Diego State.

In one of the largest studies ever conducted on Americans?? religious involvement, researchers from Case Western Reserve University and the University of Georgia collaborated with Twenge and her colleagues in California to analyze data from four national surveys of U.S. adolescents between the ages of 13 and 18. The surveys were taken between 1966 and 2014, and include responses from some 11.2 million people.

The researchers?? findings were published this month in PLOS One.

According to Twenge and her cohorts, today??s adolescents view religion as less important, report less —approval?? of religious organizations, and spend less time on prayer than did their similarly-aged predecessors. Compared to their peers in the late 1970s, 75 percent more American 12th graders, the paper finds, believe that religion is —not important at all?? in their lives.

religion is man made. it was created to divide people and line religious leaders' pockets. one can have faith and believe who they believe in without being religious. i personally believe in the bible and nowhere in it does it say you have to follow religion. only the Most High. that is just an example. we all have rights to believe in what we wish without having to bear the title of being 'religious'.

Back to the US and religion side, I blame politics.
They basically helped strip religion of any sense of relation to spirituality, instead using it as a another label on their crusade for votes. Gotta foster the US vs Them mentality everyway you can, right?

I think his argument about China's lack of religion being linked to suicide is incorrect. China probably has the highest suicide rate because the human civil rights are severely lacking, and government is massively corrupt. China's lack of religion is also a byproduct of their communist government, not because the people ditched it in some gleeful orgy of self expression. It would also be interesting to find out how accurate the percentage is about how many in China are true Atheists. If there's a fear that admitting to practicing a religion will result in persecution, that would lead most to practice in secrecy while denying it in public.

Religions told us lies but they managed our stone age morality.

As Einstein said we have an indefinite stupidity. Life happenings are too big for our intelligence to be handled by.

Without religion we lose the day to day peace. We cannot trust nobody. Look at the dating scenary of the young people. Look at the rising numbers of affairs in marriage. Look at the number of divorces. Look at the demoralized people who were once heart broken. Look at lies, gun rampages, small people corruption etc. We are moving towards a corld world if we are not there already.

If I could I would believe in one of these so bad religions. They kept people better together.

Think of Moses. He took people through the desert and was traumatised by the results of an affair. And had to forbid it. How many forgiving people do you know. None of you could handle it to be cheated on. You would be demoralized or cold hearted for a long time. Not to speak of those who kill in that case.

Not only Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism but also Socialism all are meant to give a social harmoney and collective peace. People learned to supress their ego for the issues of the public and family.

There are "religions" outside of Abrahamic, monotheistic traditions. But in some of those, there is nothing to pray to and no reward; salvation is your own responsibility - a matter of how deeply you're willing to confront yourself and your conditioning. No promise of an afterlife, and no extra reward for being good (you don't get anything special for doing what you should be doing anyway.)

I can understand how this, too, might offend average sensibilities, but for entirely different reasons.

That's right for some of them. And for some eras in the history.

Regarding reward/punishment/theWhy I want to add these:
- At least one of them has called reincarnation for help.
- Most of them use hierarchy for functioning. Like sons have to obey fathers and be polite in their presence. Government/feudal was allowed to bodily punish the wrongdoing countrymen.
- In the modern/socialist time they used propaganda to give everyone the feeling his behavior matters to the beehive.

Currently most of the communities are losing all their old basis. Money is reigning/worshipped. Being a billionare is the goal. Ciao collectivism. Ciao family. Ciao tribe. Of course the stupid patriotism has been kept. Must be hard to get rid of bad habbits.

Let's hope Aqua age will save us with new more intelligent and well working models how to keep the individual and the community both at peace.
