Thinking about it, most of the girls that made me laugh weren't trying to. They just were.

I have noticed this as well and it's always bugged me. Of course, there are a few witty girls out there, but they seem scarce compared to men. But I am totally jealous of funny girls. WynterBourne here has made me LOL quite a few times. 🙂

I think for a lot of girls, we are too self-conscious to make fun of ourselves or think it's unlady like, which I don't get.

Personally, I grew up with a Crab mother who was too sensitive to make or take jokes, so I shut any wit I had down early on I think. 😛 Also, I'm a spaced-out ADD child who takes 10 years to think of the perfect response to anything. Drives me crazy.

I guess it depends on how comfortable the person is with their audience.

Most of the leo and aqua chicks I've met have made me laugh. Same with some scorpios, gems, cancers and pisces chiccas.

The way they think, the way they share their perceptions of past events etc...

The moment they sense they're in the presence of a listening ear all hell breaks loose.

And they are NATURAL with it.

You become aware that you're listening to a funny person, not a funny girl.

The humour is never highbrow, though, especially with the leos. Not that that's a complaint lol

NIB, I can't remember exactly where, but I do recall having conversations with you and sensing an underlying disrespect for women in you. But I know you are a bit of a misanthropist, so I hope it's just that, and your hate extends to both sexes equally. 😛

But seriously, your comments about most women being funny only because we say things thoughtlessly is so insulting and short-sighted.

I admit that I am sometimes absent-minded and feel that my "brain is on fire". But I realize that a foggy mind is one of the symptoms of a hormonal imbalance, something I have been dealing with and been trying to treat for years. And I am not alone. I think my case is extreme, but all women deal with hormonal ups and downs monthly. Why don't you use your wild Aqua imagination to visualize what it might be like to have PMS just once. Feeling drained and exhausted pysically, mentally, where even small tasks seem overwhelming, so stupid small things get to you and make you cry, and people do not understand, and you don't have the patience to deal with anyone, and you want to kill everyone.

On top of that, women are more spread more thin emotionally, financially than we ever have been before. Women are still primarily responsible for raising children and most have careers on top of that. I've seen men try to raise a child and work and there are some exceptions, but it's usually not pretty at all. And we know that women handle stress better than men. Considering all that we go through, I think most of us hold up pretty well.

Maybe women aren't as funny as men because we don't have the time to be jovial when most of us are busy taking care of what's important. Women carry a lot more concerns that men do, internally and externally. Men can be light and jovial and carefree. Good for them. I wish women had more of an opportunity to be so carefree.

Personally, I rarely censor myself so what you read is what you get with me and if I say something "inappropriate" it is rarely unintentional.

I am saying that beyond the pms and the all encompassing worries every woman bares lies a funny human being.

Some women choose humour to relieve the stress. Some, like Sarah Silverman and Ellen, make it a career. Dark, snarky, whatever - they're openly funny, often times raw.

While other women are so stressed out and so unwilling to appear anything but serious and in control that when they are caught off guards the funny person within comes out.

Thoughtless funny. No conscious effort to appear funny.

Not that those are defenses but the point is men don't have it any easier because we don't get PMS.

Because people (i.e. other girls) say a lady isn't supposed to behave that way.

The stupid, thoughtless, vulgar, offensive stuff that often times is funnybut women hold in anyway comes out in the ways listed below:

1. a slip of tongue
2. when around people she loves and trusts
3. on the internet
4. in an extreme momentn of frustration/stress
5. as a career
6. as a way to aliviate stress

So what I am saying is this: both men and women are capable of being funny.

Men don't hold it in because well society thinks we're animals right? might as well act like animals.

Women hold it in because society sees them as angels so they might as well act as angels.

It's a trap that's been woven years and years and years before you, I or whoever the oldest person on DXP - cough P-Angel cough - is.

Well, my S.O. can't help himself from laughing at me when I am on a tangent about something, usually when I am PMSing. And all the laughing does is infuriate me more, of course. 😛

I see wit as something someone shows when they make me laugh with a funny comeback, or telling a story or sharing an observation. It's about timing, the way the story is told, descriptiveness, and perceptiveness. It shows a certain kind of intelligence that I think men have developed more than women.
