I've never seen all of Miracle on 34th Street. It's a Wonderful Life, however, is one of my absolute favorite films of all time, it represents Christmas to me, and it wouldn't be Christmas for me without seeing it.

I don't think it was designed to make people spend more money than they can afford during the holidays. I think it was designed to be a good movie. It carries several incredibly poignant messages, also. It's a wonderful movie, in my opinion.

What's this about a baptism? I don't remember any such scene.

As far as the "salvation through spending" conclusion, I disagree; I believe the message there was that life is worth living, no matter how bad a situation can get. His friends and family came through for him, just after he realized that he ought to be grateful for everything he already has, even before being bailed out of his situation financially.

I would go so far as to say that "It's a Wonderful Life" is one of the greatest films of all time, one of the very best in motion picture history.
