Oh! My uncle was talking to me about this movie and I know everyone will roll their eyes, sigh, and say "she's insane and making this up" its the truth gosh darn it.

So i got a direct ancestor who was a pirate (don't ask me when becasue I cannot remember) and his name was Captain Edmond England. His flag is the one that is most often used as a pirate flag the jolly roger with a skull (no eye patches) and crossbones on a black background.

As I was watching the movie I briefly thought of him because its a big thing-my uncle is a sailor and has the Captain Ed flag and all that and no one ever believes us. I remember that some of the plot seemed vaguely familiar and now I know why:

Capt. Ed's ship was named the Black Pearl, and his crew mutinied against him and set him down on a desert island south of Africa. He built himself a watercraft and sailed himself on it to Madagascar. The movie used his brief history as part of the plot line. So Jonny Depp played my ancestor. pretty cool? yes, I'm telling the truth!

Luz, you must have played "dress up" as a kid. I read your writing and envision you with an eye patch and clumping around the deck in your 7 league boots ... (with lotsa swash & buckle)

I LOVED this movie, and completely forgot to post here after I watched it recently. I was given the DVD for Christmas, which makes me very happy.

On the DVD's special features section, find the one where you can go back to like 1960-something and ride the original Pirates of the Carribean ride at Disneyland. That ride (well, the modern-day version and the only version I know!) is one of my very FAVORITES ever, in Disneyland. It's just very special. Anyway, WATCH this thing on the DVD, it's really entertaining. Walt says some things, too, and you can also watch the promotion on the Sailing Ship Columbia (or perhaps the Mark Twain Riverboat, can't remember which) where the Disneyland people are dressed up as pirates, fighting with each other, dancing, etc etc. Good times! 😛

Yes, I thought Johnny Depp was EXCELLENT in this movie, really very good. I felt like you, DisturbedLoner at the end. lol.

this movie is one of my favorites, as well. i was always a johnny depp fan (i'm not a fan of many actors) becuz i loved the character that he portrays in his movies and the way that he portrays them. he has a sense of mystery to him. i'd pick him over orlando bloom any day, lol. "Sleepy Hollow" was the first movie i saw with him in it, and i thought that it was an AWESOME horror film. i'm not into horror, but i liked that movie nonetheless.

a pirate of the caribbean sequel is coming out soon! that's gonna be so freakin tight- ass..
