The god giving fire and its symbolism

In the old myths, the gods refused to give fire to mankind. I always wondered why. Then I sat in my classroom and contemplated teaching a kid that his blocks that he was playing with could be linked together. Then I did not. I wondered what kinds of fixes he might get up to. I wondered what he might do if it didn’t go his way. Would I then be witness to a temper tantrum?

All these thoughts culminated to the story of prometheus, the god who gave fire to humanity to the displeasure of zeus. If zeus symbolises the parental figure and prometheus the uncle/aunt/older sibling, and humanity the self/child, it all makes sense. If you’re the child in the journey, you’d go “aww, daddy is mean”. If you’re the parent, you’d go “oh, baby isn’t ready”. If you’re the older sibling, you’d be like “it’s fun right? It should be shared”.

Basically i’m saying everyone has their own perspective. It’s just a story of how ready is ready and it seems to say that a parent will really let go very slowly and that most children will learn certain things from friends and older siblings. Who aren’t really responsible in teaching.

What do you think? Have you come across a time this applied to you? Who were you most often in this story?

funny coz i'm always the child before i became a parent.

but now that i'm an actual parent that was advised to give my baby more sunlight, i always just feel like he's not ready for it thinking that babies have like 60% more sensitive skin.

tho when they're a bit older, maybe it's best to teach them practical life skills. and knowing my boy is a fire sun, it might be best to have his aunts and uncles around him to teach him things as well and just spend a lot of time with him. he'd prob be more energetic and sociable than me when i was a kid, requiring more space to run around and more attention.

What comes to mind first for me, is the story of how I got my license. I got my drivers license late compared to my peers for a variety of reasons that are not important. But in this story I was the child. My Dad (Zeus in this story) was suppose to help me learn how to drive, but after we went out once or twice, I didnt do well, so he felt "I wasn't ready". But who is the first two times behind the wheel with no experience. So my best friend (Prometheus in this story), who was like an older sister, taught me how to drive. And when I got my license, my dad wasn't that happy. He wanted to keep me safe, while my best friend wanted to help me gain my freedom. I believe in giving people the tools they need and accepting, that some times their will be unexpected consequences.

I think you are on to something. Driving is a symbol of growing up in many parts of the world, and I do see a lot of parents, well in movies at least being very worried about their children starting something so potentially dangerous. Maybe driving is the new fire.

It’s always harder when they’re different from us isn’t it? The needs and wants tend to be different and we can’t use our experiences to handle it. It’s good that you’re thinking of ways to handle it now. He’s a lucky baby.
