I have no idea how to read a chart.

They give you interpretations of the chart on those sites. If you go to astro.com (my favorite), you can create the chart for each person (choosing 12 p.m. for the birth time if unknown), then go to the "Free Horoscopes" tab and click on "AstroClick Portrait", you can read interpretations of individual aspects in each chart to learn about each of their personalities. If you go to "AstroClick Partner", you'll get interpretations of the composite chart, which is a chart of planet and point midpoints of the two charts that describes the relationship itself. The composite won't be 100% accurate if you don't have birth times, so the moon aspects should be taken with a grain of salt, and the ascendant and house interpretations completely disregarded. But the aspects between the Sun and all the planets should be relatively accurate and helpful in understanding the relationship.

Also, cafeastrology.com has articles on synastry (chart comparison) and interpretations of synastry aspects, which will give you an idea of how the mother feels about or is affected by the daughter and vice-versa.
