Legally you can get married as soon as the next day after getting a divorce. Altho I'm not sure how that would work in Fl since there is a 3 day waiting period after you get your marriage license. Anyway, anyone know anyone who has gotten married right after a divorce? I believe a Virgo I knew did this, but he was separated from his wife for years, they didnt even live in the same country. All I know is that he told me he had to get his divorce finalized and then next thing I know he married his gf of like 5 years.... so I can see that... but still I dont think they married the next day.

I'm bored. Humor me. Let's discuss. I might make more random question threads unless work gets busy.

I have plenty of friends in CA that did this. California has a "cooling off" period of 6 months after filing to formalize a divorce. It's the states way of trying to prevent a divorce, but giving them 6 months to try and "work out" the marriage.

So I know people that have been separated for years from their spouse, then started planning their wedding while waiting for the formal divorce. Hell, some areas of CA have so many cases, that even if the formal divorce date came and went, it took another 3 months to get the court paperwork because it was so backed up. And while they are waiting, they are already planning their new wedding.

We dont have a cooling off period but you do have to wait for the judge to sign the final decree. It can take 3-6 months to finalize everything I think if it is a simple divorce, no kids. and the couple agrees to everything. Florida is a no fault state so you can divorce for anything and cant be penalized for much. Only bad part about that is that it is hard to get alimony here. Have to be married for atleast 10 years for a judge to even consider it. No legal separations and no common law marriages. Spouse cheats on you? Oh well. Only thing they care about is assets and children.

Yea, I am not sure what other states have. Funnily enough, my bestfriend and I filed within a month of each other for our divorces here. She filed prior to me. I got my formal decree about 2 weeks after the 6 month mark. Hers came about 10 months after her filing, which was 4 months after the 6 months cooling period, and 3 months after I got mine. Just her area has more court cases.

Why are people in such a rush to get remarried? Ewww

Either they were separated for a long time and met someone new during that time, or they were cheating way before that. Is my guess anyway. There are advantages to staying married even if you're separated so a lot of people just seperate for a long time until they meet someone else and ready to move on.

I don't know what the rush is either tho. You'd think even if you were with someone else you'd want to enjoy being "single" for a while and not have to worry about a lingering spouse

No thank you. I'll be unconventional from now on. Marriage is too much weight for me.
