what is it with your thesis? from the history (of just) america, under the dominance of this religion, not only was slavery condoned, but it was also tucked under the rugged until certain reactionary civil rights leaders started demanding more and more, and even then they were being beaten and killed. but even today, after the KKK and ordinary christian members would deny a specific race their god-given rights, they have the same attitude towards a different prejudice-the gays.

Actually, this question should not be limited to only Christians. A depressing amount of "religion" is about having power over your fellow human beings. I am closer to God, more value to God than you are, etc etc, therefore, the only way you can touch God is through me. A very powerful weapon.

The classic case would be the "Commandment" of Thou shalt not kill. I don't recall ever reading Thou shalt not kill with the following exceptions:

It is my argument that this paradox can and is matched within nearly all, if not all religions. People tend to interpret their "teachings" to fit their real life concerns, fears, and situations. Whether it be spouting "We are all Children of the Lord" and holding slaves, or flying airplanes into skyscrapers, it can not be condoned by the original writings, but is rationalized by people to suit their own selfish desires.
