If someone is truly your friend, then they won't even repeat to you any kind of lies that they know are lies, for they'll KNOW that it isn't true and therefore have nothing to defend, or even think about.
If a person repeats to you something ... then they know not that it's a lie and so want you to defend a territory in which they are uncertain of the boundaries.
