Roommates

I'm looking for a roommate right now, and I was wondering -- have you ever asked your potential roommate their sign to see if you're compatible?

Just trying to find a good roommate and prevent future drama.

Don't ask Scorp guy--but here's what you can do and this is even BETTER for YOU.....

Ask for any potential roommate coming in to look at your place to fill out a References form which you can type up yourself on you r'puter -- print it out. Ask for 5-6 references, thier date of birth and lisence number along with thier current address and employer. With the date of birth, you'll find out obviously--but the main reason for this is, when you're looking for a roomie--you have to be selective since there are so many dishonest and shady people out there. BELIEVE ME--I've been through this. A good roommate is very hard to find. So. you get to check on thier reputation through thier refs, check on thier employment status--i.e.--will they be able to pay rent? A BIG factor, right? And if they have a criminal record. If anyone who comes into your place and outrightly refuses to sign and fill out this form..YOU DON'T WANT THEM FOR A ROOMMATE.
This will work.

Thanks sloane, the reference form is a brilliant idea! I've been talking and getting to know my potential roommates so I can see if we get along, but now I can use your method and make sure they are the right person. Thanks!

Your welcome Scorp guy--good luck and I hope you get an awesome roommate. I once had to fill out a references form when I was looking for a place--my roommate turned out to be the building manager so you can imagine his selectivity--I had no problem filling it out because I had nothing to hide. I think this idea will really work for you. :-)

PS...some people may be reluctant to give out their year of birth--I think that would be fine. But try to get the month and day...If they ask why you're asking for thier date of birth--tell them it is "common procedure for running a reference check and that your last roommate was a junkie/convict without you knowing". (It's Okay to fib just a little) :-)

LOL, yeah, that's a good excuse to ask. That's my biggest fear, trusting someone to live with me only to come home one day and not have anything.. :-O
