He was kind of a Mr. Rogers of California Tourism, on hypersteroids.

He really loved his job and you could tell that.
He would stand in a puddle of water and say "Hey folks! I am standing in this
small pool of spring wah-ter! WOW!" The locals might say something like...
"That's our drinking water."

When he said "WOW" he meant it.
He had an excited boyish curiosity about him and it seems he didn't have a script other
than some trip notes that he used from research.

The California Tourister who'd stand on a pile of Horse manure and be excited about that.
WOW!

Yes, no matter where he went, the locals knew he was there.

You couldn't get a more down to earth host than Huell Howser.
A lot better than a lot of other shows I've seen on tv.
