Taurus and Taurus, suggestions?

First off, I am Taurus cusp Gemini female (May 20), his birthday is May 18. I have all the characteristics of a bull, with some traits of Gemini here and there, I still find that scary but am learning to embrace it.
Here is the cliff note: we began dating, it became intense really fast (talks about me meeting his daughter). I told him someone from my past all of a sudden told me he was going to be in my town at the same time I was, and I had no interest in seeing that person bc I was happy where I was (meaning w him).Then I left for 13 days on vacation. As a joke I said that he would meet a girl while I was gone. He laughed, I thought nothing of it. The conversation during my vacation was normal, same kind we would have when I was in town. However he started pressing me about meeting another boy. I shrugged it off as him turning the tables on me, but I reassured him that I was only interested in him.
A week ago things took a weird turn, he became distant, I asked him if he ended time, didn't say anything and just disappeared. When I finally confronted him he said he felt things were too intense, that he just wants us to be friendly and that it can go anywhere from there.

Taurus men, should I just give up on this one? How should I approach? we have a great connection despite both being bulls. We are both stubborn but he is more patient than I am....

I have to say I am keenly aware that bull take our time, I do wear my heart in my sleeve more than he does. I understand his need for security and stability bc it is what I look for in partner to. Im Just confused as to what to expect from this bc earlier that same day he said he didn't want to pursue anything else. When the conversation evolved and he finally opened up, said he had been hurt by my comment, that he was confused, that I was smart, beautiful and a joy to be around, that's when he said he wanted to be friendly....
