I think you are a lucky girl that he gave you the clarity you need. Believe what he said and dont be delusional. I was with my taurus one year (on off fwb relship) and I grew quite attached to him, but he never loved me. He cared for me, yes, but that is different. He checks your page because he cares, it means he is a good guy.
Tell yourself that it is over and try not to think about him, dont put any more energy in these thougths. It helps to detach. I know how hard it is, but being with a man who doesnt love you is worse.
