when she is in a difficult situation such as being picked on or teased or embarrassed by others at work, or if you hear she was mistreated by others...are you allowed to interfere or be dismayed?

I would be horrified if my boyfriend came into my workplace and chastised my co-workers' for picking on me. HORRIFIED. Sorry if that's not what you're suggesting, but that's what I pictured after reading your post. I think you should be her support system at home- be a sounding board, a shoulder to cry on, give her tips on how to be more assertive...
It's absolutely adorable that you have her back like that, though. I would love and appreciate the thought, but definitely not the act.

Outside of work is fine.

I just happen to be there when those things happen. Granted, I'm not part of the place but I am a customer, and she's not just a worker to me...but what if she feels bad and I just sit there and watch...?
