Are they true?

They say men want to be needed, they want to rescue their SO and feel that they are needed.

In contrast, I always hear they love confidence in a woman spoken from their own lips.

So which is it really?

In what ways do you want to feel needed? What sort of vulnerability does a woman Possess to you that makes you want to rescue her?

Not for me.

If I feel needed my red alert goes off and I'll start guarding my walls.

I don't like being seen or treated as a tool.

Additionally, and that one is probably the core of my dislike for this is that it communicates to me that any interest in me or the relationship will only last as long as I fullfill that need of hers and that's not something I would be interested in within a romantic relationship. If I want that kind of relationship I can always get it via jobs or within groups.

That’s the way I’d feel, if someone needs me to rescue them it’s not the foundation to the relationship I’d want, in fact it tells me they can’t do things themselves or they are lazy and have been mothered too much and always been taken care of.

However, dozens of articles say a man needs to feel needed. These are from psychologists and research..

So am I getting it wrong in the way I think what being needed really means? Is it more simple like honey, can you change this light bulb for me... you’re so manly I can’t live without you....?

Nah, they are mostly full of shit.

So you’re not going to find me irresistible if I need you to change my lightbulb or rescue me from a guy giving me unwanted attention or someone that is bullying me. You won’t want to wrap me up in your strong arms to nurture me??

Some doods want subservience, some want a maverick. Most of us want what's in the middle.

Tbh, when I was married, I always asked my husband to do things for me/us and our home. Once I asked if he could moving pavers that had been left at the front door. After weeks of them sitting there, I moved them myself. 🙄 guess I have my own answer.

those articles are saying to judiciously use the "damsel in distress" routine to bolster someone's ego. it can be a way to break the ice and reel someone in but it can get old.

Those type or articles are usually quite stupid/ignorant - to say the least.

For start, they all seem to miss the elephant in the room - as in... be it men or women "we're not all the same (different men/women - different wants and needs)." Just look around you - at all the people you know who happen to be in a long term relationship (friends, relatives, neighbors - even couples of strangers can give you some clues in this regard). Could you mix any man with any woman from that group? Or does it feel like a fantasy/Sci-fi to imagine some of those people together?
