
Is ti true you can't win all of em? Even if it's one you started and someone beats you down and it's fair? Is this where the term "take the beating like a man" come from?

Well if someone beats you down, fairly, I'd say yeah, you can't win them all. Also, I hope you're only starting fist fights when they're REALLY necessary.
Side note: When are they necessary?

In other words, if you are in a position where you're starting a fight, in essence you have already lost, even if you do beat the tar out of the other person.
And yes, no matter how tough you think you are, there is always someone out there just a little tougher.
In my mind, to "take a beating like a man" is standing your ground in the face of imminent injury.
As far as fist fights being necessary-if there is no way out then yeah, you may have to fight your way out.
Only other time I can think of is protecting your loved ones from harm.
