Egyptian time with the pharoahs and I of course would be
Cleopatra but I wouldn't let that nasty snake bite me and kill me.

This is always one of the hardest questions to answer... I'd like to go back to the Age of Reason, I think. Although I'd really like to go to Fuedal Japan, Ancient Rome, and also sample some of the Incan Empire as well...

You might like the book "Longitude", author Dava Sobel. About how determining longitude calculation was finally brought about. (It reads better than it sounds, trust me.)
In getting the gist, the book explains alot of surrounding events, why they desperately needed it, political intrigue, etc. Also fairly short book @ 180 pages. Uhm. You could also call it how modern clocks were created.
As for best time period.. couldn't decide. I think my close second was the Rennaisance Era (how long was that, really?)

Yes... the renniasance... it lasted in different countries different times... I would have like to have been in england durring the reign of Elizabeth I... I think that was the English renniasance, it hit their a bit later than everywhere else...

depends... if I had to be a woman I would live in Elizabethan England, roughly around 1560, or Japan anytimetime before the 1800s. But as a man (and don't read too much into that) I would live in ancient Greece or Rome, or during the colonization of the New World in the 1700s

lol its just that women really weren't treated the way I'd like to be treated in those eras but I 'd love to live in them anyway. espernaut: if you had to be a woman, what time period/place would you live?

Wow, you really do remember postings.
Err.. you're talking to the guy who couldn't specify what period, much less what gender. Teaches me. Switzerland, now perhaps. Seems progressive.

lol why settle for swizterland when you can have amsterdam?

as for remembering posts, I have no internet connection at home so I occasionally follow my aunt to work at the college I go to to work on the computers there. But i don't do it that often because it means I'm stuck at the college from 8 am to 5 pm.

Do you work on the computers as in getting paid, and meaning software/hardware install, etc.? If so, my brother works for the parish courthouse computer department, in a similar vein. (hey, maybe I should make him take that test?)

Easy...medieval England. And my next choice would be to an age where 'white man' had as yet not stepped foot on American soil. I would love to have had the opportunity to experience the many different cultures of the native ppl of America.

OH..and I would definetely like togo back and hang out with Jesus for a bit, and then shoot me forward to the 60s. While I was born in 66, I wasn't quite old enough to experience the 60s.

no I don't get paid to work on computers. right now my "work" consists of writing a 6-10 page creative fiction story for my creative writing class i'm taking in germany. And also writing up several answers to essay contests because I really really need the money.

lawgoddess, if you ever come to America, go to Manitulin Island in Ontario, Canada, because they have the greatest pow-wows. The area is unceded territory, so the Natives have always owned the land, Canada has no real rights to it. It's fascinating with all the holistic medicine churches and there are tons of art gallery that have the most beautiful native art.

I like Lawgoddess'es answer, thinking outside the box.

Gwen, the essay's now. That sounds tough. I've seen a few topics and I'd have trouble. They always sound so vast an area to try & cover in such a short amount of space.

i am writing one that is 5-6 pages on 'Growing up a Free thinker" from the freedom from religion foundation, one on "When is war justified" but that is only a maximum of 750 words, and a peace poetry contest.

i would go to the city of atlantis, where possibly humans first flourished, i would see if this place is actually the garden of eden, And see if these fallen angels were just mere missionaries from the city. But then again, i wouldnt want to be part of that particular day when supposedly mt atlas erupted and caused the seas to stirr, explosions covered the sky, cinder, evaporated water, rained for "40 days and 40 nights" or so i researched. I suppose we have to think in their mentality back then since they couldnt put everything so scientifically, if hail were to fall from the sky they'd probably say "rocks falling from sky" and im talking to myself, ha.

The ancient Greeks attempted to mend their myths calling, by the name of "Atlantic", the whole ocean that encircles Eurasia and Africa. But the result was even worse than before and the confusion only grew. Herodotus used to laugh at this ridiculous attempt by the geographers of his time (Hist. 2:28). Aristotle

It was in the Orient, and beyond, that agriculture (of rice and grains) and animal domestication were invented. These two crucial inventions allowed Man?s fixation to the soil, and the resulting prosperity led to civilization and the founding of the first cities. It is exactly this fact that is related in the Bible, that attributes the foundation of the first city ? called Henok or Chenok, ("the Abode of the Pure", in Dravida) ? to Cain (Gen. 4:17).

If I could go back into time I would want to live in the 80's. The 80's seemed like so much fun. With all the coke (the drug) and sex and wild hair and clothes. Gosh soooo much fun!!

Thanks a lot Lazlow for that link.

My Viking name is : Melkorka Swifthawk

Although I respect your courage ,
since it takes guts to give away that kinda info
to a future (or past) viking...
Nonetheless,
Your time has come,Lazlow!
I'm setting sails as soon as I figure out where you live...grrrr πŸ˜‰

You're right I shouldn't give that kind of info away. Perhaps we could create a Lamborghini time machine like Doc and Marty on Back to the Future.

I can already see the movie title :
"The Fantastic adventure of Melkorka and Lazlow."
