Advice: Virgo dealing with Virgo man

Hey all, I am new to this but hoping to gain some insight from you all!. I am a Virgo, Libra rising, Leo venus and Virgo moon. I am currently dealing with a Virgo, cancer rising, Taurus moon and Scorpio venus.

We were greattttt from December to about early May. May and June started some heavy arguments about love languages and emotional differences. Recently he’s been focused on changing career paths, a major exam and saving financially so he can move out. We have known each other since high school and started dating about 7 months of me leaving an 7 year relationship with a Libra. The Virgo really helped me get through things and self love again. But Virgo is distant, has expressed how some of our earlier arguments have affected him and he wants to try to be friends so we have a solid friendship before even considering dating again. I feel like he’s trying to let me down slowly but then again he says he loves me so I’m hoping that in the long run we would work. I just don’t know if it’s worth it to wait and be “friends” but then again I want him to trust me and see that he can trust me. It just sucks to be feeling like I have to do the compromising and not getting it I return ... but I also know that I played a pet in where we are now , which has been a hard pill to swallow. Anyone have advice on what I should do with Virgo man ?
