Can I salvage my friendship with my Virgo guy?

I knew my Virgo guy for 24yrs as friends.  There was a connection between once since day one but we were both married.  After his wife passed away he pursued me heavily for 3 months and I kept pushing him away as I was sure whether he was ready to date and I was worried that if it didn't work out I would lose a friend.  We talked about and final I feel for him.  Things went fast... him telling me he loves me 7days after we started dating, he talked about buying a house, helping me raise my boys, being a family, holidays all within the first month.  I thought it was because we had known each other for so long.  We both said that falling in love was easy and felt right.  We dated for 7months when he realized he wasn't ready to be in a relationship.  He said he needed time to figure out him he had been with his wife for 30yrs.  We stayed close but I noticed he began to spin out of control like a tornado and never properly dealt with his wife's passing.  He then began shutting down his feelings for me.  I had questions of which he would avoid.He then asked for space.  I asked what did that mean and he never answered my question.  After 5 months of talking here and there meeting for the occasional dinners he had said something that struck me odd so I flat out asked if he was seeing someone he said "as a matter of fact I am, or should i say i was.  Yes  I was upset as he made it clear he needed time to himself.  Told me he broke it off with her too cause she wanted more.  He told me all this but when I got upset he told me it was none of my business.  We haven't spoken for 3weeks.  I sent him a nice text New Years Eve saying that I hate the way things have been left between us that i will always care about him as he has a special place in my heart all I want is for him to be happy and that I hope this hasn't destroyed a friendship.   He hasn't replied😓

I don't know what to do.  Although his actions haven't been exactly admirable I still can't imagine him not in my life.  Whike we were togther he gave me a house key and a truck key that I should return and I know he has forgotten.  I am not sure whether to give him a bit of time and reach out again or just to drive the 112km to his place and leave them at his door—

Where in my post did you get that he was all over my shit a week out from her passing? I actually never said but as a matter of fact it was 2 years after she passed that he began pursuing me.

If this guy was ever anything of a friend to you at all during those years, he would have never done you like that to start with. Much less tell you he needed time from you to think and during that time he's running another woman.

Any virgo with a one gram of respect would never do this.
